Geek Culture / VGA cable?

i have a VGA cable and i want to hook it up to my HD lcd tv and my laptop has all of the correct hookups and fits perfectly but the picture wont show up on my computer. why?

The VGA cable is for making your laptop display on the TV, not the other way around as implied by your last sentence. You'll probably need to configure it in your video card settings to put your laptop display on the HDTV.

if your running windows 7 try pressing winkey + P or changing the resouloution.

ok i found out its nothing to do with my computer because i took my VGA off of my desktop and used it to hook to my tv and it is working. so obviously its the cable.

If it was the cable it wouldn't work in either case. Could you please double check your posts to make sure they make sense?

I see, makes more sense now. Yeah, a VGA cable can easily be damaged. The pins are very fragile.
