Torchlight
So yesterday I'm reading the front page of Gamerevolution and I come across their review of Torchlight. An addicting game by the creators of the original Diablo. After playing through the two hour demo I instantly begged my wife to use the card to buy it. It is a very addicting game, one I think I'll be playing a while.

I highly suggest the demo download at least. If you like hack-n-slash games like Diablo but with better features, then this game is for you.

My favorite aspects of the game are the ability to load your pet up with junk and sending him to town to sell them. Everything is random, and the interface is very easy to use. Ah, and it looks good! I hope Diablo 3 takes some pointers from this game about gameplay mechanics.

Ah, and it's 20 bucks for the full version, which is a steal in my opinion these days.

Steam had it for like 5 dollars one day too. Why I didn't buy it is a mystery to me

Signature's are stupid.

Hey Josh,

Have you ever played Trine? The game is a 3D hack n slash where you solve puzzles using physics abilites. It is a really good game for the PC or PSN.

BTW, I will have to check out Torch Light the screen shots looked good in gameinformer.

I have to say Trine looks like a lot of fun. The physics puzzle looke well thought out. Whole different type of game though from Torchlight. I think I'll try that out once I've played through TL once. Thanks for the suggestion.

Downloaded the demo yesterday,
played it today until the demo ran out, (the demo is good for 150 minutes of play time)
and just purchased the full version a minute ago.
Please excuse me while I go disappear off the face of the earth for a few weeks to play this.
LOVE.

So what if I talk to myself? Its the only way i can have an intelligent conversation around here.

Seems like it got it's inspiration from this game: Fate

I played this awhile back, and it was great (also started the dog ro cat companion thing). Obviously, the Runic version is pretty sweet; but it's also obvious as to where they got their inspiration from. Doesn't really matter, I suppose, as many games copy the concepts of others.

I played Fate more than I played the Diablo games, which isn't very much, but still. Playing a single game for any extended period of time is a lot for me. Wasn't the Torchlight producer or somebody the same guy who directed Fate, or something like that?

Downloaded the Steam demo, time for some crawling and hack/slashing.

Actually, most of the team came from this team.

Ah, and if anyone is into modding, here is the Torchlight Mod Editor.

I've almost completed the game on Normal Mode, I think ..once I've beat the game I'm gonna retire my character and start a new one on Hard mode...not sure about Nightmare mode, I've read that it is insanely hard..and if you die, game over for good...no restarting or loading a saved game...

Can't wait for the MMO version. Hopefully it's a P2P and not a F2P...in my opinion most F2P MMO's are utter crap...and I've played a lot of them.

just how good is it ? well, I bought the full version from gamersgate and for those wondering about the gameplay it goes like this :
its a 35-65 mix between diablo 1 and fate (respectively)
like diablo 1 , you have 3 characters to choose from (warrior , mage, rogue ) although they are called different names in this game. Additionally , each character has skills that can be developed simular to diablo 2.
If you can imagine fate with a story line , 3 character classes with skills then your right on track as the overall gameplay amounts to an enhanced version of fate and yes you even have a pet and can feed him fishes.
Do I recomend it ? If you loved fate, then absolutely !
The only thing I can add to this is not to play it on the easiest difficulty setting as its way too easy.

Retired my first character and have started a HC character...so far I've only been able to survive past level 10 with a Lore specced Alchemist with fast duel pistols...mobs are getting harder, especially those casters that like to send 5 bolts of magic at yah that deal 5k+ dmg each...

Anyone else retire a character yet or have tried HC? Curious as to your strategies.
