Goddamn, I am getting really tired of Steam's bull. It wouldn't be so bad if I could run Steam games without having Steam running.

Steam's fine. Windows LIVE, on the other hand, is incredibly crap, especially if I'm only ever going to use it to play B2 (at least Steam has a bunch of my other games controlled by it. It justifies its existence. LIVE is Microsoft trying to tap into gaming... and too late)

EDIT: Has MS made LIVE a requirement for the badge certification on Windows? Seems a bit odd that quite a few high profile games recently suddenly require it (GTA IV, for example)

But then you STILL get crap popping up constantly from the borders of the screen (I returned Fallout 3 because of this) unless you unhook from the internet. There seems to be no stopping it. Just go away! I don't want my game full of snap-in crap!

Athlon64 2.7gHz->OC 3.9gHz, 31C, MSi 9500GT->OC 1gHz core/2gHz memory, 48C, 4Gb DDR2 667, 500Gb Seagate + 80Gb Maxtor + 40Gb Maxtor = 620Gb, XP Home
Air cooled, total cost £160

Are you kidding me? I have Fallout 3 and Live never bothered me, installed itself and I never touched it, didnt bug me in game once. And even if it did I cant say it would ever become annoying enough to return the game, and such an amazing one at that.

Hmm, never had a problem with steam.

However, I am glad to have given up PC gaming, except PC exclusive and indie titles, because in reaction to things like piracy it's perhaps more annoying to be a PC gamer.

Gaming For Windows Live to me seems like a pointless system, whilst yes, you can have achievements sent to you Live account (like in Fallout 3) it shows no benefits over Steam. When I downloaded the Dawn of War 2 demo through Windows Live, it just loaded up and downloaded from Steam. I just thought, "why not just use steam?"

I've never used Windows Live mainly because I haven't bought many non-Steam exclusive PC games lately (I've been nabbing everything for Xbox 360).

I've purposely avoided some games on the PC that use it because I hate having to have all these different versions of the same thing. Gamespy, Steam, Windows Live, and for a while I think EA tried (and maybe is still using) some sort of 'download manager'. It seems to ruin the point of say, a unified friends list if your friends are spread about amongst three or four different programs.

Somewhat related - I was really disappointed when I found out that, despite buying Borderlands ON STEAM, I was forced to play through Gamespy's online system. That meant that my friends list didn't carry over and I had a lot of trouble getting my account set up. At least it's in the game engine though, and it doesn't force us to download their client.

I love Steam! Windows Live on the other hand looks incredibly confusing! :S

Never figured out how to launch into offline mode!

For some reason I had to have it installed, so far the only use I've found for it is to install updates for itself.

I've never used anything but Steam. Even when I do, I don't buy many games there, I'll buy them in a retail store.
