Wow, it has been a long time since Ive been on Apollo! As always, I am once again In need of an answer to a tech related question so Ive dusted off my account and come crawling back for an answer

Ive been doing some research into backup cameras...but I'm trying to do something unconventional with them. My car (a 1985 Pontiac Fiero) has a TERRIBLE blind spot. So, I'm taking off the side view mirrors (which is surprisingly legal in Florida) and replacing them with cameras. (Half Practical, Half Wow Factor) Now, I have two screens...one is my touch screen and control for my car computer. And the other one I was hoping to show a live feed of both side view cameras. What I'm interested to know is if there is some piece of hardware that can combine two composite video signals into one to give me a split screen. Yes, I could just buy two screens...but one is so much more seamless...And Im cheap.

Wow, I can't believe that's legal.

Cool idea, but I have no answer for your problem.

You're not that cheap! You're setting up CCTV in your car! I would imagine security camera kits would have some sort of device that may work for you. Look for security cam packages, and see what they offer. Might be a big VCR sized things though.

Good luck, and post some pics.

I don't think it's legal anywhere in the world, unless the equipment passes regulation testing... (i.e. equivalent testing to what the car manufacturers go through)

Well I think that any way you put this it will be costly. Yea but all this is really is a security camera setup in the car I think that there is probably some free software for this it would just need to display multiple video sources on one screen, but why remove the mirrors just put the cameras where the blind spot is.

I'm not sure where your getting your pricing information from, but a composite weather proof camera with night vision can be had for 30 bucks shipped on amazon...Doesn't exactly break the bank

Anyway...I did indeed find some options for splitting video...but I had the better idea of getting two small 3" lcd panels and integrating them into my instrument cluster (The fiero's 80's boxed out dash design will lend itself well to this . My question is where the best place to obtain a screen this small?
