I am going to get some money soon (birthday, woot!) and I was thinking of getting Realm Crafters. I was going to make a small hobby game for my friends. I'm just wondering, for $100, is it worth it?

And I'm not listening to anyone who is working for TGC.

Hello? Is anyone there?

I don't want to waste my money, and I would like some input from others...

Hello there

You said you wanted to make a game as a small hobby, and so I suppose at the end of the day what you want to be buying is all about how far you want to go with game dev. I don't own realm crafter (and neither do quite a lot of people here - which may be why you've got little response) but I see that for having fun with it, and making games that are not entirely serious, it is good. However for making extensive MMO games and the like, it would be much harder to accomplish.

If you wanted to try out FPS making as well, you could give FPSC creator a go, especially since FPSC X9 has a free version. Then you'd be in a better position to decide whether to upgrade to the full thing. Dark Basic Pro has a free verion too, worth a go perhaps and it's fairly easy to pick up, but that all depends on whether you want to get into programming, many people do not.

If you have your eyes set on Realm Crafter, then you can try asking here - http://www.realmcrafter.com/private/index.php - , because TGC resell RC and as a result that means there is not an extensive community of users for it here.

Oh, I thought it was made by TGC.

Thanks. And by the way, I am already a registered user of FPSC.
And I may give DBPro a go a some time; although I am a terrible coder.

Thanks again.

Realm Crafter is good for making games short term, but in the long run getting DBPro would be much more rewarding, a much greater sense of achievement when you create something.

If you are interested in making short term MMORPGs then I say go with Realm Crafter, but if you want more flexibility and customization DBP would be much better. Or you can download FPSC, DBP, and buy Realm Crafter.

I'd forgot DBP's now free. Download it now, foo'! Then you can decide if you need RC or not.

Or when you finally get rid of all of your error messages, that's what it's all about.

Alright, I'll get RealmCrafters for this project, but still get DBPro. I had no idea it was free.

Thanks.
