I don't know for sure but XP had a repair option whereby it'd nuke the Windows directory and replace it with a fresh install leaving everything outside of the Windows directory as it was.

Athlon64 2.7gHz->OC 3.9gHz, 31C, MSi 9500GT->OC 1gHz core/2gHz memory, 48C, 4Gb DDR2 667, 500Gb Seagate + 80Gb Maxtor + 40Gb Maxtor = 620Gb, XP Home
Air cooled, total cost £160

Try booting into safemode,might go inside Windows,then get rid of the drivers and reboot normally.

I would guess you've corrupted the system. NEVER turn a computer off when it's shutting down after an update or driver installation etc.

I would go with Charger bandit and try booting in safe mode, if that works, see if you can copy files to an external memory unit, although I'm not sure how limited you are concerning file management whilst in safe mode.

If all else fails run a LiveCD (I'd recommend Ubuntu) and backup your files, then reinstall the OS.
