Does anyone else here do paper modelling? Particularly table-top gaming? I've just started after coming across this site: World Works Games and the graphics are fantastic.

Here's what I started building.

I urge you to at least take a look at the site, you'll never know,

I always liked model making, but was never into actually playing table top games or RPG's - in fact I think the closest I ever got was HeroQuest.

What strikes me, is why paper? - can't be very resilient, is quite fragile really. Would be cool if they made cardboard and paper models - like the paper print-outs acting more like a skin that goes over cardboard models. I'm thinking layers of corrugated cardboard to make thick walls etc - they would easily support the weight of lead figures.

I guess what I'm saying is it looks cool, quite a satisfying hobby, but maybe you'd get more from it if you came up with your own designs, maybe make a cardboard building to go with these at some point.

I played HeroQuest also.

It's actually cardstock the models are made out of (220 gsm), the sort of thing decent business cards are also made out of so it's quite sturdy.

There are all sorts of buildings, traps, props (book shelves, fireplace's, coffins...) I just did a few floors and a ramp for test purposes. There's also 'kitbashing' which you can put your own graphics over those already there so in theory you can create your own designs.

I've been doing a bit more and here are some pics of the gameboard I built, it's a bit askew and wobbly and if I had more time I'd pin it all down properly but you get the idea.

You'll also notice my shoddy effort of painting minis... *ahem* :blush:

That's really quite awesome for a paper model, Nickydude, though I would be continually knocking it down if I played.

Nice game board, Nickydude. That's really impressive.

I do a bit of paper and card modelling. A couple of years ago I made my brother a massive piece of scenery out of mdf for Warhammer 40k games.

If you're into paper modelling there's a bit of software called Pepakura which loads up 3D models and then produces a net that can be printed, cut out and and folded to make a paper model. I've never used it myself so I have no idea how good it is but some people doing some impressive stuff.

On Pepakura, Its 'ehh' getting used to the functions, really just like Uvmapping and adding flaps lol.

I had a little go a while back when i tried to make a Chainsaw rifle from GOW2, failed lol. Too fiddly for me play with -___= lol

Its good if you want to make more basic objects.

@Nickydude
I did paint the model but I don't have any photos. It was a bit rushed and I didn't do a very good job. I wish I could've spent more time on it but it took so long to cut all the bits out (something like 15 hours) that I ran out of time.

@lazerus
I tend not to make folded models. Like you said, it gets too fidly

I prefer to do slot together models as I find them easier to design and they can be disassembled for easier storage. The models shown below are made from mounting board, the figure is made from two layers of board glued together.

For some reason, I never painted these. Maybe I will one day.

Thats more my style. Though the last sculpture i made was 8ft lol

Ahh i used so much of the materials i resorted to newspaper padding. It worked out as 20 guardians' + 5x1m of material + wood + a wole lota stuff nobody had seen in years. I know that place like the back of my hand lol.

Next up for my new topic is the dude in the Dl' not sure for scale yet but will be about 2/ 3ft due to my chronic you-cant-touch-that-you-used-half-the-years-stock aliment

Wow, Nickydude and 29! Those are awesome!

I've been fiddling around with paper modelling for years, never done anything too serious. Mostly small stuff:

EDIT: Oh yeah, the forum doesn't appreciate %20s in images...
Oh well, try the links:
EDIT2: Doesn't like them in links either? Blast.
