So I know that this is like the tenth game in a row that Sega has claimed will be the one to "bring Sonic back to his roots", but this time I'm actually convinced it looks like it might work.

Some of the character models are in 3D, but the levels and gameplay are entirely in 2D, sort of in the vein of the Sonic games for the DS. This is the first direct sequel since 1994 -- The story takes place right after Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and in this game Sonic is the only main character -- No extraneous filler characters for a change.

It will be released as an online downloadable game for the three main consoles, and some fourth "mystery" platform. My guess is it will be for iPod or some similar handheld, but we'll see.

Anyway, I'm not holding my breath based on Sega's reputation, although I will say that so far this looks promising.

Nice. I really enjoyed Sonic 2/3/&Knuckles. Some of the best platform games.

Does anyone else get the impression watching this that Sonic runs bolt upright? Kinda hurts the impression of speed. You can provide the impression of speed whilst not actually providing any:

Ohh kawie, soniic is soo cool! I had to draw him with my sonisona-(themselevs as a sonic character), cause im the only girl/boy for him. (yep ive seen boys with him )

Anyways i did this in ms paint an it only took my liek 5min's liek lol.

I'll only like the game if it carries over the gameplay of the 1994 games!!!...........Recent sonic games(i.e Sonic Rivals 1 & 2) have shown that sonic team have given up on gameplay.........

lazerus, that's not so much the sonic fanboys/girls as it is just the general nature of DA.

Based on the speed he was moving in the video and the way he looked, I'd say what you saw was just the "walking" speed. In the old games he also stood up completely straight when walking quickly. I'm sure his "running" will be the classic spinning-feet thing.

Sonic Rivals was a fun game when it came out. The idea of Sonic riding a hover board was a different direction for the blue hedgehog to go. The theme taken from I think Back to the Future 2 was a good try for seeing Sonic in a new style game.

I think Sonic 4 will be great; if they allow 2 players where Tails is the second player.

You won't get all the rings then. Didn't get all the rings? You didn't get to level three then. Didn't get to level three? Didn't get the ridiculously overpowered special attack that drains _ALL RINGS_ in one go then.

Yeah, me bitter.

I think they should introduce some of the few characters in the later episodes like Tails or Knuckles but that's IT! That might connect with the story at this time. But I hate(and I mean HAATE!) people who complain about Sonic not being 2D, or how he needs to be alone in the newer games. This is silly banter as some of you might know, but I think bringing back the classic 2D elements while keeping the bright and cool next-gen graphics is great to say the least about peoples' complaints. That's the one thing we've needed for a while!

Even still, Sonic forever!

Is there no love for the Sonic Adventure series? I mean don't get me wrong, I love 2d Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the first game I ever owned and I played the hell out of it. But, just because Sega hasn't been able to deliver on subsequent 3d Sonics doesn't mean the answer lies in 2d. For all we know this iteration may have its own set of painful flaws.

I actually enjoyed Sonic Pinball more then the side-scroller. I use to play that for hours on end, it was more satisfying then running through levels and collecting coins.

Though, I still enjoyed the original sonic, so hopefully this game lives up with his rep...unlike his 'other' game appearances...

Well, is it me or is Sonic going down a Mario route, it has a kart game, a tennis game, a fighting game and now it is making 2.5d platformer, *cough* All New Super Mario Bros *cough*.
