Yes, it's Suicide Linux, where any unrecognized command is parsed as "rm -rf /" ... that's Linux for "your hard drive's content go boom." Sorry, no helpful spelling correction in Bash, just boom. This concept popped up on Sam Hughes' qntm.org last year, and has been making the rounds of the web again this week.

MOD Edit. No. Count this as a warning, we do not tolerate any sort of malware being propagated here - no matter if it's a game, joke, or anything seemingly harmless.

I saw the blog post on TPUTH a few days ago, but I don't really understand why you've linked it here considering it doesn't actually contain any 'substance'. I mean, amusing article. But not substantial enough for an entire thread

Probably not but it is worth discussing the merits of this on some level for future gaming ideas. Would it not be good to have a realistic cause and effects game some where in the future...

Quote: "but I don't really understand why you've linked"
But I find it ironic that you should mention that because a lot of the threads here have no substance yet you take an immediate defensive stands on the 3rd post.

How do you grade some thing as having no substance. What makes a thread announcing doom 60 is being planned or the idea of having a linux distro that wipes your HDD any different.

Both have no evidence of even existing yet no one or very few will likely bad mouth it.

Why is that? Why can't we have this discussion about a Linux going boom is it because you can not use linux or is it because you dislike the idea.

Since you did not add any thing meaning other than belittling my choice on of information I wished to post? Why? Do you have a superiority complex do you think you are intellectually better or know of a better subject to discuss other than the usual I hate cupcakes because they use their feet to crush the fruit topping that goes on them ???

This is purely a joke or some thing that isn't likely to happen...
The "what if" discussions are much better than the usual melodramatic "Daves and his wives" episodes here...

Dude whatever sick and tired of having to tippy toe here...

I've done that a few times at work, accidentally. I just send a support ticket to IT and get them to sort it out for me. Easy.

It was a link to a game which actually deletes files when you fail / get game over (can't remember the name but it floated about on news sites a while back).

Think the mod edit is a bit odd considering it was a description of the game (with a massive warning+disclaimer) and not a direct link

@wizard of id: You misunderstood. You've linked a 'middle man' rather than the original blog post. The one you've linked contains literally no information at all (it's a just an article that links to the source and actually adds practically nothing) Link the original source because it's far better / isn't some site just trying to create content out of someone else's articles

We don't want any malware propagation at all - even if it's just a hint, a link to a synopsis - anything at all that might lead a user to malware is not allowed.

We can't guarantee what users here will try, so we have to ensure that anything potentially harmful, even seemingly harmless information, might lead a user to fraggle their PC - then they most likely blame us!.

Yeah fully understand that the forum needs to be fool proof.....Wrapping every thing in foil to make it fool proof is a bit much ah well I tried to make a point that it was funny and warning people that it will delete your files if you do use it..

But rules are rules....

Doom as a tool for system administration

By way of demonstration, he emitted a batlike squeak that was indeed bothersome.

I hardly think this constitutes malware. Was there a link to an actual distribution?

Sort of want . . .

Considering that all the articles about it say "if you mistype a command you are S.O.L." there's no hidden malice, just machismo.

bear I would love to send you the link to the game that removes your files but it would seem that it is also frowned upon.... *hint* *hint* lol

Seriously I think I have caused enough trouble as it is today.Plus I has some FPSC user emailing me complaining about the new segment pack I made he doesn't know how to use it and why I do not make normal segments like the rest of the FPSC users...

If swearing me wasn't bad enough already
