I was thinking about starting a thread on this after I couldn't play Resident Evil 5 earlier today, but I figured the network wouldn't be down for too long (still down)...

Quote: "XBOX 360s SHALL PREVAIL!"

I wouldn't hold you breath on that one (you knew that one was coming!). Maybe when 7 out of 10 PS3's fry out three months after they're taken home, and the other 3 suffer the red ring of death a week later... Anyway, I can go a few days without my Playstation. Might even give this "outdoors" thing that everyone's told me about a shot.

I wonder if this affected PSP systems too? I bought and started downloading Echo Shift and it aborted half-way through the download and locked up the PSP. This was around midnight The data was corrupted and I'll try it again tonight.

How did you save their PS3? There's no long-term damage done, right?

Who knows? I'd laugh if they were completely bricked and couldn't get the patch due to being unable to connect to PSN

Just saw this:

Quote: "
CECHA0x - affected
CECHC0x - affected
CECHE0x - affected
CECHG0x - affected
CECHH0x - affected
CECHK0x - affected
CECHL0x - not affected
CECHP0x - not affected

Those are the Phat SKU's, stamped on the back of the console. If you've got one of the affected SKU's, don't use it. If you have an unaffected SKU, use it.

Not ALL Phats are down."

Just thinking about this, they have really screwed this up. I don't know the full details of the problem, but assuming the bug doesn't allow you to sign in and that only a patch/upgrade can fix it; how will they distribute the patch? You only receive updates when you sign into PSN

Exactly what I thought. Mass recall of bricked ps3's?

Was thinking maybe they would make a fix disc or let you download the files to a memory stick or something? Think it will cost them a lot of money what ever.

Well, why are they not working? Is it a timed event for all PS3's to go down this week? I'm saying they can probably fix it remotely. Probably.

Unless they change the authentication system so that users can login with the incorrect date or whatever causes the problem, I don't see how they can remotely fix it. Upgrades only come after signing into PSN which most of us cant do.

Actually, I am happy that my Xbox died twice. I got a new one with a new warranty both times for free. The newer model is much quieter as well. Oh, not to mention two free months of gold.

Well, when your warranty runs up and then it breaks, people tend not to be happy.

My warranty was up and it broke, and MS still covered it because it had already broken three times before. I guess they don't like it when you make a fuss about having it brick 4 times!

This was actually quite funny, because I've just now (come the release of Heavy Rain) started USING my PS3. Up until now, it's been gathering dust as there are exactly zero interesting exclusives and I prefer the 360 controller to the PS3 one.

And what happens? It can't be used! It's actually quite funny... But it's supposed to be up and running again, now. I'll check when I get back home.

If it's because they programmed 2010 to be a leap year... how did offline consoles know that it wasn't??

It'll have an internal battery, so the clock would still be ticking over whilst it's off (so it will still be under the assumption it's a leap year but once it rolls past midnight it's back into valid/real dates again rather than the non-existent 29th of Feb)

The Wii shall prevail!

Though seriously, I have a Psp and didn't experience any problems. Anyway, glad everything sorted itself out. I remember the most single frustrating thing about consoles was getting light-headed from blowing into the dang cartridges so much...

Yep, I turned on my Playstation last night around 11 (one more try before I hit the sack) and it logged on like nothing had ever happened. My trophies were still there, and all of my saved data as well. Didn't have to download any new patch, or call Sony and complain abut a red ring or a loud noise or anything like that! It fixed itself. 3 and a half years later, and I'm still on my first PS3. About 10 years later, and I still have my PS2

I'm glad my PS3 is back up and running. I personally didn't even pay attention to the downtime. I had a PS2 that could fill the void.

The good news is that my PS3 is running fine with no loss of data, but there have been reports of people losing trophy data from fallout 3 and some others .

happy gaming to all PlayStation, PC, X-Box, and Wii owners.

I have the new slim model because my other one burnt up because I accidently left it on all night. I wouldn't be making fun of the PS3's glitch though 360 fans, because the 360 is way worse than the PS3 about crashing.

People keep saying it's fixed: It isn't. It has rolled past the date that screws it up (on its own). That isn't 'fixed'. Sony hasn't actually done anything.

And unless they roll out a firmware update or something, it will presumably do this every few years

Well, one day without a PS3 every four years is still nothing compared to having to mess around with warranties and shipping hassles every three months to send it back to Microsoft to repair the red ring

This is nothing more than a minor bug on Sony's part, and not a major reliability flaw in the console itself.

Quote: "I wouldn't be making fun of the PS3's glitch though 360 fans, because the 360 is way worse than the PS3 about crashing."

Yeah. And then there's the Wii, still runnin' strong I still have my Nintendo 64 and Super NES from, what, over 12 years ago?

I think all consoles should be built with this bug. There should be an official No Consoles day when we can't physically use them, and have to be creative and do something other than being fat game playing bastards.
