I want to create CG for my movie. How would I make CG like in XXX: State of the Union where the car explodes after the man gets onto the train or when the train falls of the tracks and into the water below. Any ideas

1)Purchase 3DS Max/Maya/Cinema 4D

2)Learn to model, texture, and properly animate CGI in a professional manner

3)Model, texture and animate a model of an exploding car, along with particle effects to add that extra bit of "realism"

4)Render it out overnight (or for days, depending on the complexity of the scene and your PC/Mac specs), then use Apple Motion/Adobe After Effects to composite the rendered CGI into your live-action footage

Judging from your post, it doesn't sound like you know the exact steps of creating CGI for a movie. It takes time, patience, SKILL, computer power, time, patience, MONEY, time, time and time, and talent. CGI is one of the most complex parts of filmmaking and isn't exactly easy for an amateur filmmaker to take on (I speak from experience here!). However, I wish you the best of luck!

Actually I don't think it takes money... but it does take enthusiasm.

It takes money to buy the many pieces of software needed to create good results. Trust me, I've been looking into it for about four years at this point. If you want good, professional-looking results, you need to spend the money for the software. It just isn't possible otherwise.

I don't know... Blender and Wax I think would be all that's completely necessary, and they're free.

True. Although Wax was pretty awful for me, honestly. It just doesn't have the abilities like After Effects or Apple Motion. Like I said; if you want professional results (with the use of professional features), you need to spend the money on the software. Wax's matte/masking feature is pretty awful, honestly. You can't feather edges around a cut-out like you can with any professional application, and the green and black lines it uses to represent the mask are not very friendly at all. If you're in the middle of creating a mask or travelling matte and try to zoom in to see more accurately, it messes up the the lines and points as well. It's like the scaling variables don't work properly and as a result your entire project messes up. Thus, while Wax is free, it's a nightmare to use.

There's also some software called EffectsLab Pro and CompositeLab Pro that cost $150 each. They're pretty awesome and don't cost nearly as much as Motion/After Effects. Check out the demos.

The beginning of the forest scene looked quite realised imo.
