it's been a while since I upgraded my card, I just want an entry-level CUDA-based, DX10 compatible card, can somebody point me in the right direction? As a basemark, I guess I'm looking for something capable of running FPSC X10.

i forgot whats CUDA? sounds like an ati thing but i dont remember what it is.
radeon 4-5 series a good powerful card would be 5770/5790 (5 series has more stufff in the cards including dx11 support)

nvidia GTX 280, GTX 295 great cards and nvidia has physics and uther good jumbo (a bitmore expensive than ATI) I like ATI better but thats my personal preferance.

CUDA is the on-board processor on NVIDIA cards, it's what PHYSX runs under now.

When you say GTX 295, did you see the bit where I said Entry Level!

At the hundred dollar range, something like this wouldn't be too bad:

Here's the list of cuda capable GPUs by Nvidia.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_gpus.html

ATI doesn't support cuda afaik.

A Geforce 9400GT is fairly cheap (~£30-£40) and is CUDA capable

No idea about FPSC X10 but it is certainly DX 10 and can push along various modern games quite nicely

Well the best advise right now is to hold out a bit maybe another 2 months or so.That is if the new nvidia cards get released there will be a price cut which will result being able to get a slightly better card and at a better price.

I would think a 9800GS/T a good all rounder

That's what people say in *every* hardware related thread. You might as well buy now or wait 2 months or wait 2 years. There's always going to be cheaper and better hardware every few months.

*sigh*

Well? would you rather pay 200 dollars for a card or wait two months for a new Generation card to come out and then pay 150 dollars for the card when the price is pushed down by the newer card hmmhmhm?

You are not waiting for the new cards to come out you are looking to save money and get a little more bang for buck on the current Generation. Please explain what is so wrong with that ideology of wanting to get some thing cheaper and maybe get a little some thing better.

Just a complete *sigh* Missing the point completely there is a reason for it you just ignored it.

You completely missed the point. Tech is getting better and cheaper all the time. If you just wait for [n] amount of time because "some new product range is in the pipeline that'll be better" then you'll be waiting forever.

Buying any technology is ALWAYS a compromise, because there is ALWAYS something new on the horizon

Because 2 months ago those cards were 250 or 300. You're better off keeping an eye out for good deals to show up (and maybe waiting 2 months is or isnt a good prospect, I dunno). I personally wouldn't wait two months if I had the money to get a good card now. I picked up a gtx260 maybe 4-6 months ago with almost 2gb of onboard graphics ram for $200. Crazy steal even these days.

Thanks for all the tips.

I've been out of it so long, I thought I'd see what response I got. But I can say the sub £60 sounds ideal if it copes with your average game. I'm not a heavy user, just looking for a little more fizz than my ATI 800XL gives me!

GeForce 9800 GT, if you're OK with DirectX 10.

If you fancy playing with DirectX 11 in the not-too-distant future, then I'd just wait for NVIDIA's next range. It apparently has some pretty amazing technology features.
