For no apparent reason AT ALL my steam name got changed to Max somehow... I have no clue at all how this could have happened, except for hackers, but that is also extremely unlikely

Just what do you think have happened here?

Hmm, my username is still Captain Cheeseburger.

Although at the first sign of any trouble, changing password is advised. Getting h4xx0rd will probably result in them getting you VAC banned which means you're screwed - no more Valve online games for you.

I wouldn't say hacking accounts is any worse...If you use hacks, it must be because you suck at the game. And it ruins it for other people.

Getting my Steam account hacked is my worst nightmare in my gaming life... ever. I've never had that problem, but I created an alternate account for the free (Nvidia users only) HL2 DM download, and this random guy added me as a friend. So, I asked him why he added me and his response was that his 'friend' hacked my account with PacSteam because I supposedly 'gave' him my password... :S I was like, "WTF?" So I changed the password from my crappy four letter old password just to disencourage the hacker ^_^

Quite frankly, I hope they VAC ban you. I'd rather not be playing against cheats

Yes I can't believe someone who, I assume wants to make a game or at least be a part of development, would actually consider cheating. Anyone who thinks they know game design and cheats clearly doesn't know anything.

Sorry even though I rarely play online at the moment, but people that cheat don't deserve to play and put me off even trying much, and it's nothing to show off about.

They clearly know enough to circumvent security designed against them. What you're saying doesn't really have any relation to hacking, it's just a random related insult. You might as well have said that his hair is ugly because he cheats.

Hacking/cheating... can be really really funny People who are serious about the game just get really realy pissed (which is why it's so funny). Of course anyone who hax is risking getting caught, banned, whatever, but peeps need ta chill.

Lot of stuff is pretty hard to do. Just a sort-of related insult there.

No, it's not funny, it's really annoying. I play to play, not to watch cheaters try to have a laugh.

I would agree with that if hacking/cheating were really mainstream, but for the most part its a once-in-a-while occurrence (at least with my experiences)

I think he's full of it, no one ever describes their self-made hack as a "C++ cheater."

Cool, trying to boast about your skills in a game. Awesome, I mean, I've only got 245k 45deaths in a rather pro pub match, but dude 10k 0d, that's like cheetz.

I hope you get VAC banned so I can CY@~ in your face.

VAC bans ban your entire Steam account from VAC-secure servers I believe (any game). Valve had a very hard-line no-nonsense approach to banning (which is good in my opinion). No 'three strikes' no appeals. Just a ban hammer to the face

(Although it's timed randomly after you commit the offence to try and make it harder to work out what action caused it)

Hacking is wrong, but if you play CSS properly you should play on good servers with admins that will kick/ban instantly.

You hate Steam because you were cheating and got caught

....because 99% of the people who say they hate Steam (for vague reason X and stupid reason Y) do so because of this. But they never tend to say so

And 99% of the people who point out the obvious are also people who got caught cheating, because they feel so bitter about it.

Right, DavidR?

No but it does tend to be the case that irrational hatred of Steam = owned by VAC

I mean, having to uninstall AVG Free as a cited reason for hatred? Seems a bit extreme

I don't know, people are quick to hate these days.

Extreme? Yes. With the numerous extreme sports the youth of today get involved with, extreme idiocy is one of them. Can't say that I see the attraction, but then I've always been partial to badminton, not an extreme sport...unless of course the shuttle-cock is on fire or something.

No you don't. I didn't.

I actually quite like steam. I've got all my games, organised in one list on my computer. I don't have to put in a disk or search through files, hell I don't even have to worry about the files because if steam finds a missing one it replaces it. Stuff is cheap and downloads reasonably quickly. It's easy to use, quite simple and not overblown. I like it.

Considering the OP is also into the cheating circuit, it isn't wise to base average experiences upon his.

Sadly, software doesn't always work 100% with all hardware configurations, as far as I can see, you're just a very unlucky sod. I've had steam on 3 different computers, one 10 years old, one 8 years old and one 2 years old, it runs beautifully on all of them. No glitches. Its even miraculously managed to stay online when my wireless cut out, MSN, GTalk and browser didn't...an amazing feat I think. From what I've always understood, average experience is good.

Have a problem with software or you're unable to use software you've paid for, then talk to the steam customer support, it exists for a reason, they might actually be able to help you or offer a refund. If not, then nag them.

However, I might recommend brush up on your written English, not meaning any kind of offense, it's just I doubt customer support will be so sympathetic if reading your email takes effort.

Sorry, but how the bloody hell are we (or Seppuku) supposed to know that? Seppuku said to improve your writing in the nicest way possible (and with good reason). There's absolutely no way in hell it could be construed as an insult.

An theres no need to act all high an mighty over the internet, disability or not, you were obviously baiting so deal with it. Any stupid opinion like that will be shot down since if steam never worked, why would millions still use it today?

blah no need.
