I'm surprised that no one posted anything on this yet!

Being a fan of Nintendo products (Note I'm not a fan boy) I instantly became excited when I read this. But now I'm actually wondering about the technology and whether this might be a little to ambitious.

Your thoughts and criticisms?

I love the DS, if they can kick it up a notch with this new one as much as they did for the DS I'll be a happy customer.

I'm waiting for them to stop making hardware revisions to the ds and make a new handheld all together.

Awesome! How'd your project turn out? It's such a fantastic opportunity to meet game people.

All this console will bring is Mario in 3D, Nintendo needs to make something original again and not just the same old stuff.

No kidding! I'm getting rather sick of it. They need to up their processor stuffs so that the graphics look better (I'm getting kind of sick of N64-esque graphics), and just INVENT A NEW THING ALTOGETHER. It doesn't have to have two screens. Just one would be fine if it meant something completely new on the market. I've put off buying a new DS (I have an original silver "Phat" model) because I figured after the DS Lite they'd have something new. When I heard of the DSi, I got excited, but then found out it was essentially the same thing except for the added web browser and two cameras. Then I heard of this, got excited, and it's STILL basically the same thing!

Lol I can see your point but in all fairness to Nintendo we haven't seen this 3DS yet...

I do hope they take the graphics up a level. But DJ Almix how can you say that! lol Mario is awesome, even though he seems to do the same thing each time...

You guys do know that the 3DS will 'have the power of a gamecube' according to what's been let go so far. It IS a new handheld.

Bear, yeah it went well. My team came 3rd. We were first for a while as the judges were reading out the scores, but one of them gave us a really bad score because he had bad hearing (and the game was rather audio-based). Shame, but it was still fun! How about you?

Ummm... but the two screens IS what made it completely new on the market. Now they're making it a 3D handheld, which is completely new to the market.

I happen to be selling my DS on eBay right now lol, but this looks very interesting. The power of a game cube would be awesome.

Zotoaster,
That's awesome man. That's a bummer he couldn't appreciate the audio. What was your game called? Our jam site had 4 categories (Most Innovative, Best Aesthetic, Technical Achievement, Best Overall) that were voted on by all the jammers, and we wound up with Best Overall--mainly because we had the most focused design from the get-go. A lot of the other games were trying to do some very indie/artsy stuff (it's NYC after all . . .), that wasn't very conducive to the 48 hour time limit. Some of these teams though, like Advanced Enterprise Research Office pulled off some really cool effects (they got Technical Achievement).

On topic:

I think what a new DS system really needs in additional to hardware capability is an indie developer program. Amirite?

You are right! Give the man a cigar! lol
But they have to do it so it isn't an iTunes App store rip off, they need something unique and clever, something better then the crappy themed clocks they make you pay for on the current DSi store...

I freaking love the my DSLite. I'm currently playing one of the new Pokemon games and am one of the happiest of campers.
