Ok first off to anyone turned off by the name, unless you've been living under a rock when it comes to Wii gaming, Red Steel 2 has nothing to do with the first game except for swordplay.

I'm pretty amazed by this game. First off it appears to run at a solid 60fps and the graphics aren't too far off of Borderlands on the 360. The Wii Motion Plus sword-fighting isn't 1 to 1 but is pretty spectacular nonetheless, and as long as you have the timing down for combos it's a very rewarding feeling to see your basic swings translated into smoothly stylized and animated combos.

I'm looking at this game as a good indicator of what we have to look forward to in the future with motion control. I'm sure we'll see something even better on the Wii or PS3 in the future. Who knows what Natal will even offer in this department

The story isn't really anything to write home about so far but the overall presentation and setting of the game is great!

Basically I'm just impressed and was curious to see if anyone else has played it

I was debating picking it up. I might rent it first just to see how it plays.

How's the motion detection compared to in the original? You say it's pretty spectacular, so I'm intrigued. I played the first Red Steel, and I enjoyed it.

I bought Red Steel 2 today. I asked for vouchers for christmas specifically to buy this game as I couldn't take yet another year of crappy presents.

Anyway, I had a sense of trepidation about the game. Even reading a review of it the other, I had a sense of dread that this was going to be another big disapointment.

I've only played the first half hour or so and I've got to say that I'm really impressed.

The gun play and sword fighting are much better intergrated. There is full freedom of movement when sword fighting, which can be against multiple opponents.

The sword figthing isn't 1:1 but it's a vast improvement. You essentially swing the sword horizontally, vertically and make stabbing motions. But you have to swing from the shoulder, or at least the elbow, for blows to make an decent impact which gives the combat a visceral feel, like you really are giving someone a good beating. It also means that you can't just waggle your remote and hope to take people down.

I don't know how the rest of the game is going to pan out but it's going to be worth playing to find out.

If you're a little unsure, I definitely recommend renting it.

As long as we're nit-picking word choice...debating with whom?...

Anyways, I wasn't a very big fan of the first game, but I'll probably check out the sequel eventually. Sounds pretty interesting.

Lack of multiplayer put me off this game... Looks good though.

Multiplayer would've been nice. I prefer split screen, like the first game, as opposed to online but that's just me.

I'm now five hours into Red Steel 2 and I'm really enjoying it. It's a lot of fun.

I may have to buy wireless nun-chuck though as I managed to get the cable cought on the thumb stick, with all my wild swinging, and yank it out of the remote.

Hi,

I played for a couple of hours. Great visual style and music. motion control is great.
I haven't played a lot but so far for me this is more a hack and slash game with a first person camera than a FPS... yes you can shoot but most of the time your are using your katana.

I would have prefered a more linear path rather than a mission-based gameplay.

Overall is a very good game.

Best regards

JF
