So I posted this in the new os thread but no help yet. I'm still having the same problem with my wireless internet. I don't think it recognizes my adapter, I'm not even sure if it sees that it's plugged in, but I know the adapter works because I use it in windows.

I dled the linux drivers but I have no clue how to use them, can someone guide me? Here is the readme:

I have no experience with the terminal so please explain things throughly.

can you give me the name of your adapter? there might be a better way to install this.
Also, what makes you think it doesn't recognize your adapter?

It the meantime, plug your computer into the network, open the terminal and type:
sudo apt-get update
that will check for updates for any of your installed stuff. Now click on the System menu -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers
That will search for any 3rd party open-source or proprietary drivers for your system. Tell me if there's anything listed there concerning wireless drivers (while you're at it, there might be a video card driver there for you to select, I would recommend it )

It gets stuck at 99% waiting for headers.EDIT:NVM I was just impatient.

It says no proprietary drivers are used in this system.
Thanks, also if it counts I ran through like 5 ubuntu updates in a few hours, maybe I botched something up? Seems fine though.

Satchmo, if you could give us a little more information about what computer hardware you're using, we could help you more. There's usually an easy way to install stuff in ubuntu. Also where'd you download those drivers? If you don't mind posting a link

If it's a build in card, it should be fairly straight forward.

If it's a USB drive, I know that I had plenty of fun with mine. Basically, you need to look into finding information relating to ndiswrapper and wireless drivers. I had to use ndis back when I was setting up my brothers linux partition. Was lots of fun getting that set up(/sarcasm). Having a separate partition with net access on the same computer was a godsend, to say the least...

Alright so the card I'm using is a D-link DWA-130 revision C.

I got the drivers here.

It's a usb card. Setiing it up with ndiswrapper doesn't seem to work.

hmm, that's weird.

I would keep Google-ing around and see if you can't find something. If not, I could try and help you install the drivers from source (that's what you downloaded in the first post), but from what I've read so far, it doesn't seem like that works all the time either.
