Hi everyone.
I am having trouble with the internet connection of a HP Mini Net book. my Windows & laptop is running just fine whale the net book can't even connect to the internet. When it is connected it disconnects minutes after being connected. I haven't used xp very much and do not now my way around it so if you could give me some help that would be great.
Things ive tried:
- Delete all %temp% files
- Run C Cleaner
- Run Windows disk cleaner
- Run windows xp diagnostic wizard
- Change settings in device manager
thanks.

Perhaps there's interference in your house. The most common being a wireless telephone running on the 2.4ghz spectrum (same spectrum as wifi). Try removing the power from the base of your phone and see if it stays connected. If so, get a new phone that uses the 5.8 or 6.0ghz (or etc) spectrum phone.

Its not a problem with interfearence as the computer im posting with isn't having any trouble and its wireless.

the problem im having now is that the computer will not renew its ip address. it isn't set to a user defined one and ive tried various cmd commands such as ipconfig, renew, release, dumpdns win sock and more. still nothing.

EDIT

Now it is having trouble clearing the ARP Cache need help with that

I experience similar problems from time to time but can usually recover by letting windows repair the connection. The problem is particularly bad on my very ancient PC - but that is furthest from the wifi hub and has three very solid stone walls between it and the hub.

I usually open up the following dialogue box and hit Repair. This usually finishes with an error warning about the DNS cache or something - I find I can just ignore that.

However, you may have inadvertently changed a setting which needs to be changed back and I can't help you there.

Well ive managed to fix the issue. i turns out the security information was changed.

Thanks for the help.

PS. to fix the DNS error i believe you can try to type
"ipconfig -dumpdns" or something like that into the command prompt.

Thanks.
