The Ultimate Steal is awesome! Just bought myself Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 for £40. Bargain!

You can be eligible for the deal if you're a student and you're saving something like 90% of the original price. You can also get Windows 7 Professional cheaply as well. (£70 I believe) I'd say it's worth it, I mean, once I leave Uni I'll need MSOffice anyway, so why not get it at a fraction of the price whilst I still can? I think the offer runs out in July.

Also...you'll get a free upgrade to 2010 when it's released, so might as well download the BETA now. I've looked at it and it's pretty shiny.

BETA download:

This means I can give up Open Office now. (I'm not really a huge fan of it) Also, OneNote is a godsend - I've been using the trial until now and it's been fantastic at keeping my notes organised, especially for one of my projects where I need several different sections to organised stuff under.

I cant get it (sadly) my school doesnt use a .ac.uk address which a bit silly when were a leading school in my area. .co.uk is the address we use which is a bit silly IMO

I really wanted this

But yeah, its a good find. Enjoy your Ultimate Steal

Usually it's colleges and universities that use .ac.uk rather than schools, if I remember correctly, my school was .edu.cambs.uk or something silly like that. You might be lucky to get a deal like that if you go to college or university. If you go to websites like Student Software, you ought to be able to pick up Home and Student for roughly the same price, I don't think Ultimate was that much more expensive. Though I don't think being at school qualifies, but it's always worth checking.

However, I am enjoying the 2010 beta more than anything, which is free for everybody until October 2010, so you might as well download that whilst you can still use it. (seems Microsoft are liking their public betas)

Nice, the discounts you can get from schools for Microsoft products are really good. They sold us Windows 7 for only $15 and Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint for $30 at my university, which were awesome deals, although you can obviously only get one copy of each.

I'm still using the superior Open Office.

I did notice this a coupla weeks back, still prefer Open Office to Office though, even if the menu's can sometimes lag.

Open office just doesn't have enough features. It's great for being free (and I'm not going to complain) but often I would want to use a special tool, or format the text in a certain way, and the options wouldn't be there.

However, I will need to revert to OO when the beta of Word 2010 expires. I don't qualify for MSDNAA since I'm not taking any computer science courses.

Sweet, that's an even better deal, wish I could have got that one, would mean I could have afforded Windows 7 as well, whilst I had £40 spare, I don't have £70 on top of that to get Windows 7 from the Ultimate steal.

That was actually one of the things I disliked about open office, though it has served me well through most of my University career.

I've found myself preferring MS Office quite a bit more. I think the ribbon is actually quite sensible (I know a lot of people complained about it) and 2010 is looking even more shiny and it's sweet that I'm getting the upgrade for free.

Microsoft Office strikes again. I have been using their new Office Online stuff and there's a useful feature that allows you to access your online storage through MSWord and every time you save it updates online, which is really handy because it has given me an easier and more regular source of back-up.

The reason this is REALLY good is because my last major external HDD back up was 3 weeks ago and my laptop just stopped working. All of the work I've done in the last few weeks is on Office Live, so I've not actually lost anything important and all my University work is safe. Lesson to be learned kids. Now, I'm using one of the old XP PCs in our house, with an ancient keyboard, which is really dusty and noisy to type with. Had I not backed up or didn't use Microsoft Office Live, then I'd be panicking insanely right now (only a few weeks to deadlines).

Also, my laptop was an Acer, and almost 2 years old, so hooray for failing! Though instead of winging about it, I'm going to see if I can get it fixed (sadly, warranty ran out almost a year ago), though I don't exactly have the money to spend on fixing it.
