I'm am getting the parts to build a computer and the motherboard has triple channel memory. Can I just install one memory chip or does it need to be three memory chips.

I know with most dual-channel motherboards, you just didn't get the advantages of dual-channel unless you had two sticks but it still worked.

It probably just depends on the your motherboard.

Your mother has been erased by a mod because it's larger than 600x120

check the manufacturers website, or look up the particular model on some pc building forums, chances are someone will have already asked and answered this question.

It will easily work with only 1 stick of RAM.

It always does,I also have a Dual Channel motherboard and works with only 1 stick of RAM.It would be stupid to require atleast 2 sticks of RAM.

Obviously it works with one or two chips, the question is whether it provides any advantages over a dual channel motherboard when using only one or two chips.

Well its obvious if its "DUAL" Channel it will work faster if you have 2 RAM sticks. If its Triple Channel,it will work best if you have 3 RAM sticks.

I think your right about using 1 stick of memory and also according to Wikipedia using two memory chips will switch the mode to duel channel.

Thanks for the help
