For an IT professional this was the stupidest thing i did s far. I backed up the clents date on a harddrive and then when i was installing windows, my harddrive was plugged in and i accedentally got distracted and deleted a partition with my clients data I DID NOT FORMAT THE HDD. Now i know the data is still there and i have a few recovery tools, but this is actually the first timwe i work with recovery software/ I know that the thing recovers all files but its just gonna be a list of files and nothing more. I had them organized in folders and everything. Is it possible to recover the data including their directories?
another question, will the recovery tools be able to restore pictures and documents and ISOs? to the condition in which they will work and display correctly? any other tips about how to reassemble all the data to the way it was before would be a GREAT HELP THANK YOU EVERYONE!!

If you have not written to the hard drive. Everything should still be there and intact.

Recovery software will give a list of files and the directories they are in.

Formatting doesn't wipe the hard drive. It just writes some new file allocation tables to the partition. So basically, it does the exact same as if you deleted everything.

When you delete a partition, all it does is delete its entry on the partition table. It doesn't effect 1 byte of data inside the actual partition.

There are loads of guides on the Internet for partition table recovery. Try googling it.

Recovering a deleted partition is alot easier than recovering from an accidentally reformatted hard drive. I mean, ALOT easier.

The data which you accidentally wiped is just a few bytes big. There is some software around for partition fixing. You just need to put the partitions entry back into the partition table and your done. It should all be back the way it was.

Just googled a bit and it looks like this piece of software will do the trick:

You might want to look in to:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
It's open source, I have never had to use it before though so I can't comment on how successful it will be.

Partition Table Doctor seems to be a popular one, might be worth looking into as well:

Best of luck with it! There's only one situation worse than loosing your own data and that's loosing your clients data .
