Okay, I need an expert please. I currently use a Dell XPS 630i desktop for basically everything I do, programming, gaming, etc... I've got 2 9800gt 512Mb running in it right now, but I'm thinking about buying a 295 for it and I have some questions: First off, is it worth it to upgrade? Would it be able to outperform my current setup? And second, if not, would I be able to stick a gtx 480 in it then, and would that be worth it?

GTX 480? I i didnt know the 4 series was out. about the 9800 gt's not sure. the 9800s are powerful cards and there are 2 of them gtx295 is a prety kickass card but vs your current setup it might be a little weaker. You need to get the benchmarks of both setups to find out i cant say for sure

Whit the current prices here in Sweden, The "high-end" GTX 2xx models are being quite overpriced for what you pay for...esp. when compared to AMDs Radeon 5xxx series.

For example the GTX 285 price is dangerously close to that of the 5870 wich is quite a bit faster...heck even the 5850 would give the GTX 285 a very long run for its money.
(The 295 GTX is kind of impossible to find...and if i do find one i certainly don't want to see the asking price for that card.)

So my suggestion is to either go whit a Radeon 5xxx card in that price range...or if you want a NVidia go/wait for the GTX 4xx. Seriously don't bother whit the GTX 2xx series for now...their performance isn't worth their price.

But will I get any noticeable performance boost using a single 295 over 2x 9800 or not?

Yes a single GTX 295 should outperform two 9800gt in SLI in many cases, but it also kind of depends on the games/software you're going to run as well as the screens resolution. If you're running below 1920x1080 then the gain is lower than normally and two 9800gt would still be usefull for a year.

But i'm curious on what you'll have to pay for to get a 295 GTX?
Also you might check your power supply if it can supply the GTX 295 or a 480 GTX whit enough power...both configurations should need about 400 - 500 watts (Total consumption of the computer) under load wich i would use a least a 700+ watt supply for.

I don't think you have the cooling for a gtx 480. last time I checked, the nice evga ones HAVE to be watercooled.

is that a watercooled machine?
