Hey guys. I just wanted to make this thread because I was wondering what kind of music everyone is into. Here are 5 songs which I think are incredible. There not from any particular band and are from a large range of forms of music. The songs don't have to be in any order by the way. Mine arent in any particular order.

-> What If God Was One Of Us (Joan Osborne)

I just like this song and I cant remember the first time I heard it. I think its a fairly light hearted song but can have a deeper meaning.

-> Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana)

I have been told that there is a story behind this song, see if you can find it I just love how everyone of my friends, no matter what their taste in song is loves it.

-> Another Brick In The Wall (Pink Floyd)

A song against utilitarian education, which was obviously a large issue in the past. The song is also very memorable, especially the chorus

-> Wake Up (Rage Against The Machine)

This song is very deep political song, just listen to the lyrics) and I think it has another incredible RATM Riff.

-> I Wanna Be Your Dog (The Stooges)

I just love how incredible this song is

Very difficult for me. Favourites change so frequently.

Currently:

The Sixth Extinction by Ayreon
Beethoven's 9th Symphony
Stratovarius - Alpha & Omega
Emperor - Sworn (Ulver Remix)
Anathema - Fragile Dreams

It might change in a week. I'm terrible when it comes to favourites.

Wasn't it that kurt was at a party or something, and some girl said he smelled like the deodorant "teen spirit"? Then... the song was based on the party, or the title was assigned to a song they already had been working on?

Mah favorites:

-> Saint John - by the Cold War Kids
I dunno why, I like this version better than the album version (though it's a tiny bit painful on the ears). Cool beat, cool words, bluesy, simple kinda tune. One of mah favorite songs eva.

-> Hook - Blues Traveler
Amazing harmonica solo, great song. Sounds good.

-> Just what I needed - The Cars
(that's the first studio version of the song i found on youtube ) Cool song in general.

-> Teenagers - My Chemical Romance
I don't listen to my chemical romance... this is the only song by them that I like, and I think it's awesome. It's like... patriotism + insane people. Video's kinda lame, the fact that it's censored is lame, but it's still cool.

-> Ain't no rest for the wicked - Cage the Elephant
Well-fitting lyrics, awesome slide guitar, cool.

[edit]
@ arenas:
You've got me listening to RATM. I love bands like that, awesome music mixed with political statements, stirs up the rebel in everyone.

Becoming The Archetype - Dichotomy

In Flames - Dead End

Amon Amarth - Runes To My Memory

Demon Hunter - Carry Me Down

Disturbed - Indestructible

Remember those old guys? They made epic renders, I think one of them was called DaVinci, and all they used was MS Paint. Sometimes it's just skill....

They all have incredible beat Im trying to find some new bands which is why I started this thread It seems that most of the favourite bands here have already been some of my best bands at some point

Nice selection Mnemonix, esp Paint It Black, I keep forgetting how great that song is (since they don't run Tour of Duty anymore).

Mine would be...

Rearviewmirror - Pearl Jam

Midnight Cowbow - Faith No More (cover)

Freak on a Leash - KoRn

Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden (They made grunge cool, not just a fad)

Aenema - Tool

If I had more than 5, then I'd probably add some Queens of the Stoneage, 'I never came' and 'Rivers in the road' are great tracks. List changes now and then, except for Rearview, that's been my favorite song since I first heard it - first PJ song I heard after the Ten album, which set them in stone as my favorite band really - Rearview is like the perfect rock song IMO, it drags you along with it then sends you reeling.

1. Clutch - 10001110101 Just love me some funk rock.
2. Incubus - Azwethinkweiz More funk rock.
3. Primus - Tommy the Cat I like me some stories.
4. Aesop Rock - No Regrets I also like stories with a moral.
5. Tool - Bottom Plus, sometimes I just like to rock out.

As far as RATM goes, how about some year of the boomerang, Know your Enemy, and Freedom. I also saw some System of a Down up there... Some good stuff. How about some BYOB and War. Also, SOAD's Legend of Zelda is short, but good!

I love muse. If I had to... I'm kinda considering swapping out "Teenagers" or "Just what I needed" for one of their songs on my five list. stilll can't decide what my favorite muse song is out of:
uprising
supermassive black hole
hysteria
stockholm syndrome (this part is mah favorite)

but I can't really narrow it down further than that :/

But it is over an hour long, so I'm sure it'll do.

>> Breakdown << by Guns N' Roses
Great song, very under appreciated track from Use Your Illusion II. I don't know many people who have head of this song, let alone listen to it.

>> Mama Kin << by Aerosmith / also the cover by Guns N' Roses
Really good song, a lot of people listen to it. Some say it is overrated, they are wrong.

>> Comfortably Numb << by Pink Floyd
Guitar solo is amazing. 'Nuff said.

>> I don't wanna miss a thing << by Aerosmith
... I just like it. Steven does a great job in the singing.

Add the last one and the other links later.

Bah, 5 top songs of all time is too hard, they change daily. Better to go with 5 songs I'm addicted to at the moment (in no particular order):

* Mew - She Came Home for Christmas
* Anathema - Temporary Peace
* Pure Reason Revolution - Victorious Cupid
* Pink Floyd - High Hopes
* Devin Townsend - Deep Peace

Quote: "
Another Brick In The Wall (Pink Floyd)
Anathema - Fragile Dreams
Ghost Love Score - Nightwish
Paint It Black - Rolling Stones
Porcupine Tree - Way out of here
Andrew Bird - Nervous tic motion of the head
>> Comfortably Numb << by Pink Floyd
"

These are all good too.

Yay for Tour of Duty. Was watching it again on DVD not that long ago, had forgotten how good it was. Shame they replaced all the music on DVD, the soundtrack was half of what made that show so great.

Wow, this is hard. I'll have to put 2 for each position xD:

5. Bad Romance - Lady GaGa & Now is The Time - Dope

4. Out of Space - Prodigy & Girls - Prodigy

3. (Uhh....the name's bad...another name for a female dog) - Dope & Breaking The Habit - Linkin Park

2. Volver a Comenzar ('Start at the beginning' in Spanish) - Café Tacvba & Damage - Kosheen

1. Song 2 - blur & *Blanked* Tha Police - Dope

Probably my best song of all time is Paranoia - Dope. Runners up are: Falling Away - Dope, Breathe - Prodigy, Crawling - Kosheen and Gone - Kosheen .

I shall now refer to the Dopes sond on the list.

You sir, are a true genious.

I also couldn't fit in other great bands, such as Sodom, Lordi, Korn etc.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things that I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Funny how I actually don't like nu-wave or cold-wave (which is what Dope is) and I'm more towards Rock and Dance/Electronica which explains why I never leave my school's Music Tech suite xD. I think Dope are probably the heaviest band I have in terms of texture (instrumentation), followed by either Prodigy or Linkin Park methinks. I've never tended to like very heavy stuff, hence the fact that I only liked one track from the SAW 3 soundtrack, the Hydrovibe - Killer Inside one, partially because I like that style of music and Shawnee Smith sung in it and I like some music by her (and acting ). All the rest of the soundtrack was stuff like Lamb of God and Drowning Pool .

@Up: Hmm... IIRC Dope was Industrial Rock. I have always connected Cold Wave with Joy Division...

Make games, not war.
