Hi all, I just downloaded MW2 as part of Steam's new Free Weekend. Yet, as soon as I installed it (including the C++ and DX things) and tried to start it, a message pops up reading - 'Localization.txt could not be found. Make sure you are running Modern Warfare 2 from the right folder.' I checked in my steam/steamapps/common/call of duty modern warfare 2 folder, and there was no Localization.txt. I checked on the Steam forums, and other users who even bought the game were having the same problem.

I was wondering what solutions there are, and if anyone else has this problem (I know Asteric might; he was downloading it too). I've played MW1, yet my XBOX broke, so I just wanted to see how MW2 is.

Thanks...

Localization files are just to deal with multiple languages, the problem seems that you have NO localization file.
Did a quick google and found the english localization file, download it here.
Find out where it is meant to go in the file structure and copy it there.
I also found this. Which is about converting COD to another language but apparently fixes the localization errors.
Check the size of the Game folder too, i read somewhere that people are installing only 3.5gbs of data when the game installed is meant to be about 11. Not sure if this is right but its another thought.

Are you sure steam has downloaded the game fully, as well as updated it? If they are giving the game away for free for the weekend it could be that they had a problem with the original files for download.

Or it could be because it's not the weekend yet...

No, it said that it started at 4PM PDT on Thursday and will go on till Sunday. Now I'm having this infinite update glitch - after it's done updating, it'll keep updating. And I've heard of that same problem, with the odd GB size jumping.

I found the localization file as well, and put it into the correct directory. But now, as I said, it's in an infinite update glitch. I've heard other users say that after they get the localization file fixed, other files are missing as well. Even with people who bought the game.

For instance, and old friend of mine just bought the CD version, and can't run the multiplayer disk. How sad, InfiniteWard, how sad.
