I have used steam since around 2007. I have been through 2 accounts in that time. The first account had $300 worth of games on it, all purchased from shops locally. I was banned from playing Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 2 on that account (I used mods like ENBSeries that made the game look more realistic), so I got a new CoDMW2, formatted my pc, and created a new account. About 2 weeks after the new MW2 was purchased, my old steam account's passwords got changed and the reset email and question were changed.
Just the other day, I got banned again (after about 4 months of playing the game). I contacted Steam support, and all they did is sent me the
exact same message as when I contacted them about my first ban, even the second response was the same.
Steam never discloses information about how you got banned, all they say is 'the ban was legitimate', and their support is just crap and it is an automated system that works off keywords on posts.
I contacted them the other day and asked about why I was banned, later in the post they just keep repeating their previous text and closing the topic. I was about to call them, when in very small writing under the phone number, it said that it costs $2.50 per minute. There would probably be a wait to talk too so thats probably give or take a 10 minute wait ($25). Might as well buy a new serial for that same price (rarely available though).
For your information, after formatting my PC and reinstalling windows and only CoDMW2, no mods that affected multiplayer were used (I only use a texture mod for single player, but steam clearly states that skin mods arent bannable).
If you happen to be purchasing a game, check on the back of the case and see if things like Steamworks or similar are written on the back. If it is, try to find a non-steam version on ebay for about half the cost or less. This will save the stress if any issues occur with the game, steam is very crap with support.
About my MW2 ban: Ill probably wait till CoD7:Black Ops comes out later this year (in september). I'm not going to take another risk with steam (the money-hungry [CENSORED]). Their VAC system should be similar to the xBox live system - 2 week ban for any problems, at least then you wont loose your hard earned cash for a false detection.
Feel free to post your disagreements and/or issues with steam.
thanks
