Geek Culture / Windows 7 - Button problem (overlays and wont disappear)

What happens is, I click on a button when I am trying to do somthing. And at some occasions, the button fades out slightly and then freezes there on the screen. I have searched all over and have had no luck. I need to restart my pc to get rid of it.

I have a ATI 4650 graphics card and 4gb of ram (if it is a memory issue).

I do not know what causes this so I am asking anyone who happens to have an idea of the cause and/or a simpler way to fix it without restarting.

thanks

Yet another complaint thread...I'm beginning to think that's the only reason you frequent this forum.

This isn't a technical support forum. If you have the occasional problem, that's fine, but people tend to get annoyed when you post this type of thread multiple times a week.

Like I said, I searched around and found nothing. Im not registering over 10000000 forums just to find out what this problem is.

Try this. I usually have fading disabled anyway for performance reasons.

To be honest, you're more likely to find help if you do. I don't have a clue what the problem is. Only thing I can suggest are the obvious, virus scan....but that might not even be it.

A lot of the problems you post I think would actually be solved better on other forums.

When I encounter a problem, I see what I can do to fix it and if I don't succeed it, then I post on a forum where I think people would know how to solve a problem.

Some tech forums are very specific and therefore are incredibly useful...at least I've found so in past. The chances of a person knowing the solution here are quite slim. Remember, this is a game creation forum, generally, people's expertise are more concerned with game creation, so you're less likely to get a solution. (Not to suggest you 'won't', but I really do recommend trying other places when it comes to tech issues that have nothing to do with products sold on this site)

[Edit]

Or in this case. You may have done. But still, it's more of a productive suggestion.

This kind of error has happened to me since Windows 95, albeit very rarely.

Just at work last week it happened, though. Chrome had crashed, and I right-clicked the program on the taskbar to get the Close option. After about 5 seconds it finally appeared, grayed out. I could NOT get rid of that right-click menu for the life of me. I killed all the program processes I had open, and even locked my computer. The stupid menu thing appeared on the foreground of every single window. Eventually I had to restart.

Not sure if this is what you get, but so far I have been unable to find a solution.

This happened to me once. The "shadow" the right-click menu "projected" on my desktop decided to stick around. All I had to do was drag a few windows over it and it disappeared after a few seconds. It's never happened with a button though...quite curious. I'm guessing it's an error in the drawing routines of the OS? Like, something isn't clearing that section of the screen or something? I dunno.

Thanks very much, it worked. I mis-phrased what I searched for on google. Now I know for next time.

thanks

@Jeku:

That's something that only ocurred when I was using Chrome on Nokia's laptop (when I was still working with them). I just gave up using Chrome when I was still working there, as I had to restart Windows 3~5 times a day!

It's probably some other software conflicting. I don't remember exactly which software was, but with the default Nokia's installation of Windows (and associated default software for the company), we've always had BSODs when doing updates from SVN server (for 5 months), then I disabled a certain software, and it started working 100%.

Actually the problem that stuff does not open is the lack of RAM. Maybe apps are eating away too much RAM or you do not have enough. Happens to me if I run Photoshop,3DSMax and other stuff at same time, cant even delete a file or make a new folder.

@kBessa - Ahh, thanks for the heads up. I need Chrome for my job, though, otherwise I'd abandon it if there's a driver issue with this computer.
