And I'm sure the world has an adequate engine - I doubt it lags whether we feel it or not.

No, or there wouldnt be dynamic shadows, lights and much more wouldnt be dynamic.

Even if the world took 1,000,000,000 years to render a single frame, we're part of that frame and cannot travel between frames, so how would we know?

These aren't the same shadows programs use. You gotta remember, quantum physics is also rendered.

Implying that we were perhaps created by the REAL Microsoft?

Your signature has been erased by a mod because of the forum's stupidly tiny restrictions, along with other things such as lack of automatic image resizing, and lack of embedding videos.

I would imagine OpenGL, since it's able to run on any platform.

I've always tried to imagine what I would do if I could hack into the universe's programming. That would be so cool. Not to get into a religious discussion, but that's how I think of god, The Almighty Programmer.

To break off of this silly "the universe engine" talk, I completely agree with Zotoaster. It kind of goes hand in hand with what I said. It's all about problem solving, and whether or not understanding abstract concepts is part of that or beside it, I don't know. Personally, I believe that abstract concepts are part of the problem solving included within computer science, as, using recursion for example, recursion is never necessary. You could use a standard loop in place of recursion, but recursion is fast and, well, elegant to say the least.

I know! I love quicksort, and I love recursion for structures like quadtrees or something (Errm, I've only gotten parts of a quadtree working). In my comp sci class, he gave us a link and told us to do some of the assignments on a website. There was a question on recursion that said to program something that could see if the numbers in a given array could be added to reach a target number. I love that! Great programming excersize. It got annoying when there were questions that told you to not use a loop, only use recursion, when it would be a lot more straightforward and faster if you just sanitized the array beforehand, but...

a lil bit offtopic... >.>

but yeah, I think programming helps loads with problem solving and stuff.

Well that's because a day is a much larger percentage of a 5 year-old's life than a 50 year-old's"

Or is it because five year olds are SOOOO hyper and run around so fast that they actually come close to the speed of light, making their Lorentz factor so large that while they think they've been running around the house for 10 minutes, their 50 year old grandfather, lying inert, has aged a week?
So, would that mean the kid is running 17320.508 m/s?

[EDIT] Sorry, I know it's an old post, but I couldn't resist it.

This isn't an old post really. The post before you was made on the same day. And there were two posts just the days before that.

Thanks,,,

Hehe, could be.

I think it all has to do with heart rate, the faster your heart rate, the slower time appears to pass. So when your young and your heart rate is at full pelt and your running around, time seems to pass quickly.

Some insects only live for hours, and they have really fast heart rates, so it appears to be a much longer life for them. Basically children are insects!.

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Well, I do believe that programming changes the way we think about daily stuff. We see things more logical than others, and to satisfy our need to solve problems, we program. Our hungre to be creative and work things out, makes us program our worlds, and when we succeed, it gives us such a trill, that we want more...
And I, for one, I'm glad to be a programmer...

Cheers
