My simple answer: because I know I'll have fun with it.

I wonder if that's why everyone else buys theirs, though. Especially with these "console wars" going on. For some reason I see anyone who supports one console over the other (especially so passionately) as a person who's not buying it for its fun factor. Rather it's all about the "brand". After all, in their minds (apparently) the console with the biggest name out there is going to be the most fun to play, right?

I sometimes wonder where the consideration of having fun went in these people who "fight" the console wars in order to put their favored console on a pedastal higher than the others...

What are your thoughts/opinions on this? Well... the ones that don't burn too hot or brightly anyway? (I mean... no flames please)

In the beginning there was nothing. There'll be nothing in the end...

I invest way more in my pc than any console costs, which is why I don't own them. But I do own last gen consoles. Classic gaming ftw!

I don't care about the "biggest" brand, but my first console was a Sony PlayStation, so the obvious choice when it came to the next generation was a Playstation 2.
And no, I don't own a PS3. There's just not enough time or money anymore

I do find (Experience from working in game retail) that people generally stick to brands they've used in the past, because there A) used to them and B) they generally don't know much about the competition.

I to am a true PC gamer, but I do own a PS2, 360 and Wii. Plus a few retro consoles. But I mainly stick to PC.

Why? Keyboard and mouse (Also tons more strategy games!!)

I'd buy a console today because they're cheap, easy and wide selection of games...

PCs FTW.

EDIT: not that I won't buy and play a console game, I just won't buy a console.

I had some consoles in the past (Gameboy Advanced,PSP,played PS2 too) but nothing beats the versatility of a good PC. For the price of 400€ (PS3 price) I can buy a computer that runs straight off and works with any today's game on atleast medium dtail.

I bought my DS for two reasons: I wanted to play Mario Kart DS and Super Mario 64, and I needed something to do on long car rides and during the winter. Since I had $100 extra lying around one day in November of '06, I went to GameStop and bought it (and a couple of accessories). So yeah. I bought it because a), it had two exclusive titles I wanted to play, and b), it was a portable Nintendo system (I've always loved Nintendo). And it's fun, too.

Now I'm considering a PSP for the same exact reasons; exclusive titles, portable game system...yeah.

I've stuck to PC mainly because I can't stand the controls on a console. Also, I can be productive on my PC (programming, school work etc) and if I had a console I think I'd end up playing games more than working, or end up not using it at all.

All of the above. I will play games on any system, and do not have a preference. In fact, on Saturday I bought a few Virtual Boy games and started playing around with them.

Virtual boy? As in the that terrible Nintendo console that strains your eyes and makes you look like a complete plonker? O.O
I'm surprised they're still around.

To play games. When I got my 360 it was way cheaper than a PS3, and more people had them. That's probably still true. I figured that very few games would be exclusives and most made for both, and i got the cheaper one, and i'm happy I made that decision. D-pad is poo though.

I HATE the d-pad on the 360's controller, however the overall design of the controller is good. It's comfortable and fits my hands perfectly. It's definitely the most comfortable controller I've used for a console!

A couple of weeks ago in a different thread I stated I didn't like it...but then after using it for a few days in a row while playing the 360 at a friend's house, it felt so natural that I almost forgot I was holding it!

I like the lounge gaming that consoles give you. PC games require you to be sat upright at a desk, which is far too much effort for me
Consoles are so expensive though I don't think I'll buy another one after this generation unless I am totally taken in by the crap they spout about "revolutionising gaming" every year.

Console gaming tends to be a lot more comfortable, these days if I want to get into a game, I play on consoles. But it depends on what game you want to play, the last couple of months I've went from Frontlines on the PC, to MAG on the PS3 to Just Cause 2 on the 360.

It just depends what flavor of violence you want at a given time, it's not like the consoles are lacking in any particular games or types of game, we sometimes have too much choice IMO. I think I preferred it when we only had a few games, and had to master them or face boredom.

It's funny i just stumbled onto this,

I myslef have just purchased a xbox 360 (literally 20 mins ago). I only did it because all my friends have one, so in order to play with them, I had to swallow my pride, and buy another microsft product.....Oh the shame!

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things that I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

What VanB said, really. Console gaming is that much more comfortable. A wireless controller, couch and the knowledge that you can just throw your disk in the disk tray and it'll WORK. No drivers, DRM circuses (somebody say Ubisoft? Steam?) and no need to worry about graphics settings, performance or any of the sort.

First PC title I've ordered in years is Starcraft 2.

I started out with a 360 but eventually got the red rings of death, paid to get it fixed then it died again a month later. I purchased another 360 and 6 months later had the same problem so decided not to bother with XBOX again.

I should have known better as my original XBOX was plagued with disk reading errors which I had never even experienced on a Playstation. Damn Microsoft and their cheap components.

Since then I got a Wii for my girlfriend and have some games on that which I really enjoy and I got a PS3 which I've had much more success with than with XBOX.

Well I guess consoles do tend to be more fun WHEN YOU CAN ACTUALLY PLAY THEM! LOLOLOL

To be honest for... Guitar Hero and Rock Band. I have only 8 games, and half of them are from those series. Also there are some console-exclusive games that I like, but still prefer the PC...

Make games, not war.

Rock Band is worth owning a console for alone though, we started up a virtual band (Caveman), and play most weekends . I like to play the drums, but am usually stuck on guitar. Trying to get through Battery is really annoying, I can handle the drums, and our other better player can handle the guitar, but nobody can do the bass at the same time.
