I have my entire DVD collection backed up on my external hard disk but have just realized that the resolution is full screen so I have two black areas, one above and one below the video. This is fine but when I want to transfer this to any mobile devices it means that it is a lot smaller due to the extra area.

Does anyone know of an application that I could use to crop the videos to just the actual content? Can be Linux or Windows.

Many thanks.

Try MPEG Streamclip, I'm pretty sure you can crop with that, and its free!

After Effects? Im not going to say pirate it (im not NOT going to say it either), but its certainly something Adobe encourages.

It looks like you can crop in MPEG Streamclip thanks for the suggestion

I think I have CS4 Master Collection lying around somewhere, although it seems a bit like overkill for what I want. And if Adobe want to charge ridiculous prices for students then it's their fault.
