Wasn't something going on with like Infinity Ward heads/lead being fired or direct off the company premises what happened to that?

You joined the party late, this has been happening for a while. Get on kotaku and search Call of Duty, you'll get the full story including links to news reports and the lawsuit itself.

Not sure which side of the fence I sit on, don't really understand what is going on, there are so many accusations which i'm not sure are true that I don't know who to side with.

Well, for me its pretty clear. I'm on the side of the CREATORS of mw2. They created the game so the next game they will release will be the one I buy. Maybe I will buy the new mw3. But I'm not sure about that.

In all fairness, they should own the rights to the call of duty franchise, but it has been said that all call of duty games set after the Vietnam period are owned by activision, not Infinity Ward. So West and Zampella trying to steal the CoD franchise would have been illegal, whether they created it or not they are still under contract. Sure it's unfair but legally they were wrong.
Maybe i've missed something, reading this now to catch up and try to get my head fully around it.
I just hope it's resolved soon, the games industry has had a lot of bad press recently...

Let the morons have their Call of Duty franchise, then Infinity Ward should make their own franchise and make good games that will leave CoD in the dust.

Quote: ""Court documents lay out Infinity Ward's agreement with Activision, which purportedly gives the developer rights to creative authority over "any Call of Duty game set in the post-Vietnam era, the near future or the distant future" and any title under the Modern Warfare brand. Essentially, West and Zampella had locked down the Modern Warfare brand as part of an agreement to keep making more games.""

Seems to me like the developers actually own post-Vietnam CoD games, not Activision. Remember they are a publisher not a developer.
So if most of the IW team switch (13+ have already left now) to the new studio, Activision are screwed in terms of the CoD franchise.

Must have misread that bit, no wonder it didn't make any sense to me...
It still doesn't.

I'm still sure that activision had rights to the CoD name, not the creative authority, That is completely different.

Activision are far from screwed regarding the CoD brand, I know that they have a new studio, sledgehammer games working on a CoD game, along with Treyarch working on another.

A new CoD game is out of the question while this massive-lawsuit- counter-law-thing-rival-publishers-battle-to-the-death mumbojumbo is going on. Sledgehammer has been hired. They aren't working yet. I say the developers are the owners.
