If you haven't watched it, I understand. The trailer is mediocre at best and there's not many of them to see anyway.

But I went to see it with my girlfriend the other day, and I was surprised at just how incredible it actually was! I have to say, this has to be the best movie this year, the best thing to come out of DreamWorks in a long time, and better than most Pixar movies.

I checked it out on http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1194522-how_to_train_your_dragon/, and it got a 98% fresh rating (putting it way above Avatar's 82%), and with something like 140 critics, only two of them didn't like it, and those are just the silly professional critics that don't like any film.

On that note, I have to say this was more enjoyable than Avatar. I loved Avatar, but this has everything it had, plus a better story. I even think the flying scenes in this were better.

Everyone check it out, it's fantastic.

Well, it is based on a novel you know - so it seems a bit unfair to compare this film versus the output of a studio that consistently creates original films with original stories

Whilst this film is getting decent reviews, the transition from attempts at original stuff to existing stories (i.e. moving away from the strategy Pixar uses) represents DreamWorks scraping the barrel to me, no matter how good the end product

In the same way Disney moved from original films to basing their films on theme park rides...

Well, loosely based on the book, apparently Still, it was well made. It's not like the book had an awesome soundtrack, heheh.

As for Disney, they went from good films to... well... Hannah Montana

It's not like once they had a loose story, everything else fell into place from there. The animation was fantastic, especially in conveying expressions of Hiccup and Toothless. They still had to work hard to make in an actual movie. Also Toothless kicks ass, QED.

I don't think so. Sure, it was based on an existing story, but what made it was the characters, the wonderful animation, and great music.
