I just started playing Metro 2033 - and I'll be honest, it looked like another random game. Yet the reviews were excellent, and I just had to try it. It - is - brilliant. The environment, gameplay and story all merge to create an awesome horror/shooter game. Being in a mine/underground Moscow fighting mutants infected by radiation was definitely new and more scary then most other things I've played.

So what're everyone else's thoughts on this game?

I personally thought it'd be a Fallout without going to the surface, but it really is it's own style - I felt so sad when I had to give it back to my mate...

Oh, boy, try it soon mate!

I also loved the shadows of the mutants, you could see them sort of 'stalking' you. What I hated were the levels in the carts going down tunnels while mutants just pelt you.

And have you guys noticed that everytime you find a partner to fight with, he dies in some cruel way?

yar ive been working on my new one for about a month. Starting to make headway.

As for the game ive heard it was a hell of a lot like fallout. Even the OXM reports said it slyly lol. any truth to it?

Yeah, it does resemble Fallout quite a lot, yet with better graphics, story, and environment. It's also less sci-fi. I think it also resembles STALKER a little bit.

Ok, I just got to the chapters with the Librarians... Ugh, they're annoying. And creepy, to say the least

The libarians are just annoying, not really creepy, frustrating yes, creepy no, to me Metro doesn't really have that "creepy" factor, the creatures may look messed up, but it is more like a "well that is one ugly...!" It's like the Flood off of Halo, they look messed up but the majority of the time your just killing them, and not have enough time to actually be creeped out. It's like the first creatures you come across, they are running about and your first experience of them is killing them. I may be super-critical but to me, the only thing that creeped me out was those darn pipes.
. I have to admit the graphics are sublime, the controls are great, the environment at times can be lacking, but to call it creepy, I'd say it isn't. I also think that the characters in the game was lifeless, the majority of the time the characters are the same, I've seen the same character been repeated over and over the make the citizens of the metro. The lack of ammo, helped out with it's realism, I agree, but they went over the top with it, like with
and you would of thought in a battle between them, it would be a gold mine for ammo, as they never run out, but yet, search all the bodies, and your guaranteed to be running out of ammo after 2 or 3 libarians. I think to me it is just another Post-Apoclayptic game, nothing to bad or special about it.

I really liked it. I haven't played a lot of shooters lately for the singleplayer aspect so it was a refresher for me - and a damn good one in my opinion.

The graphics, at least with DX10 and the settings cranked up, looked pretty spectacular to me. It was the lighting that really got me (as it does in many games with dynamic lighting), especially the way light rays flickered around a creature crawling by a window in the first level.

The librarians are much easier to deal with if you're sneaky. It can be a bit of a pain, but (usually) not unfairly. I thought it was pretty cool that stepping on glass actually made a noticeable noise, especially since I figured it was just detail at first

I know at least a few of the devs from STALKER worked on this (and it shows), which might explain why STALKER's been reusing so much content - maybe there is nobody left to make it (STALKER is pretty much my all-time favorite game for the record)

I just installed the game and played a bit of first level. I must say it is great,a bit more refreshing and slightly less boring than STALKER. This game is better than Fallout or STALKER for sure.

Eh. I supposed given they're both post-apocalyptic, it's inevitable they would be compared.

Despite that, the environments and general feel are much different. In Fallout, it's like three story missions out of the game, and you have a nuke launcher. However the weapons in Metro feel alot more...characterised, because they're so crap, (especially the "B*st*rd" SMG, horrible, but makes it feel more like a struggle for survival. The weapons in Fallout are too perfect IMO.

Also, it has a nice supernatural tangent to it partway through. It revolves around the theory that when the entirety of the world is destroyed, then heaven and hell are also destroyed - therefore souls are forever trapped in a purgatory...

Well I'm guessing it's comparable to Fallout 3 not only because of post apocolyptia but also because Fallout 3 was chock-full of metros.

I just bought it from Amazon based on the good vibe you guys have about it. I love Fallout3, but could never get heavily into STALKER, so kinda dismissed this as another shooter that I'd get bored-of within minutes. I made the mistake of installing Stalker on my laptop to see if I could get into it - it's just as jerky, miserable, and bad as it was years ago, even on decent hardware, even with a trainer.

But Metro2033 does look cool, and I can do with a new shooter to celebrate my new 'office' and PC speakers and mouse mat.

If it sucks, then I will hold all of you accountable .

Van B, about the stalker. I think many people who doesnt like Stalker, doesnt like it because it is too hard.

i love stalker because, it is hard for a change, all games nowadays tent to be too easy.

sure, the graphics arent very good, but the point of stalker is, that you have about the same chanses to survive as the AI, a singel head shot can kill you, run into a battle without a bandage and you are pretty much screwed.
what i personally like about Stalker is the constant struggle for survival.

just my opinion on stalker.
now Van B, would u mind telling me more specific why u dont like stalker? =)

(Off-Topic) @Nickydude, did you get my e-mail?

(on-Topic), just beat the game - went through the 'bad' ending, apparently. I just learned there was a good ending, so I'm replaying it

Quik.
I just could never get that deeply into it. I can understand the need to have a more challenging FPS like STALKER, but I think it takes it a little too far. I play games to relax, I don't need real life consequences in games. Other games manage to keep the game enjoyable. I mean, what's the coolest thing you ever did playing STALKER?

I prefer Fallout3, that's gameplay gold for me - quite easy to die, lots of over-powered enemies, but it's possible to kit your player out to be able to deal with anything. I just think a game has to at least give the player a chance to own everything, if they're prepared to put the time in gearing up their character.

Maybe I just need to play it more, but I don't think that will happen. Maybe when the earth is actually like the STALKER environment, I'll get round to playing through it .

any every time I kill a librian after 2 1/2 clips of the P90 I mean Kalash 2012 I end up stuck using the punematic dart gun which is good if it's overpumped.

Yeah, I missed the special armour and stealth suits on the 4th last level, and couldn't go back. It's a great game though, something that I should play through again, it's a decent challenge at least.

it is very "survival"istic, and scary at its places, i thought the
was annoying since you couldnt hurt him at all and just had to run, took me around 10 deaths to figure it out and another 5 deaths to clear the level>.< the atmosphere is just amazing, and the intro, the.. "prologue", wow! i was stunned the first time you enter the surfice.

I got it, and to be honest, i think it tried to hard to be a scary game, and as a result, i got really bored after a few levels.
