so i finally got an old ATX server case, not as retro as i wanted it but its still looks pretty retro. Has TONS of room like 6 places for fans, its wide so my giant zalman will fit easily (had to bend the fins to get it inside my old case and it still stuck out from the side, had to leave the cover off) the only dowside is ony 2 places for cd drives (i wanna keep the cassete tape drive for the retro looks) i also wanted to stick a front side sound tuner in there but thats out of the question sincei need a place for a dvd drive. so i am planning to mod this case a little bit. My first dillema is: the case has a front panel with 5 led lights and 4 buttons. on a regular motherboard i can use 2 buttons for power and reset and 2 lights for power led and hdd led. what should do with the other lights and buttons, kinda seems like a waste to just leave them. Also what else can do to this case that will make it better? (no i wont paint it i wanna keep the retro look.

here are some pics

Well, two of your lights are for network connectivity. Why not use them for that?

Remove the lights, run PVC tubing through the holes and pump different colored fluids through them?

YES

Also I really need a new case. For one, the one I have now looks pathetic and filty, and it's too small for my 4870, and putting the side panel on makes the computer heat up a LOT.

lol the better tech we get, the more we turn to older alternatives for there cases. Good way to recycle.

I heavily modded my case. Found an old slightly big case from an office, tore off the front, used industrial laser(big one for cutting metal) to cut out holes in the side (22cm LED fan ) and some holes on top above DVD-Rom (12cm LED fan). I painted the whole thing black so it looks really sick

There is also an 8cm LED fan in front, one 12cm LED fan in the back, two neons inside and a HDD cooler, everything running on:

ASRock motherboard
AMD Athlon X2 3ghz
Transcend 2GB 800mhz modded RAM (heatsinks installed)
Gigabyte Radeon 4770 1GB
160gb Western Digital HDD
550W PSU (came with my previous case so don't say its overkill)

Maximum temperature of CPU: 35°C
Maximum GPU temperature: 50°C

Planning on making a custom case this summer.

Pic attached.

AW why did you tear off the front? (did it look ugly?)

well today i came across a computer junk shop that had an atique case just what i was looking for, i decided to buy it because i will not get another chance of getting this thing. I will have to do some havy modding to make an atx motherboad fit. the motherboard somewhat fits but the back plate is in the way and the PSU dosent fit at all, i will have to drill some holes, cut some stuff out and i will need a PSU with extra long cables to reach the motherboard, but its gonna be a pretty sick project. If you notice the green/white sticker, it says "Government Property- Rockwell international" GF 022006 under the barcode. So this case has some history, its at least from 1989 since the cpu that was in it was intel 486. Funny how something that was once property of american government is found in a russian junkshop 20 years later

some pics of this new case

sorry for large pics, was hard enough to carry this thing home and upload the pics, too lazy to resize them
i added an old 3 1/2 inch floppy drive for the extra retro look. Now whaqt can i hook up the cpu display to?

Yes the table is messy ( i just come in from work and plop my stuff on it).I had to actually drill the holes in the case for the motherboards check lights to go there. and be mindful its from a 1.3 megapixel camera so its crappy quality but you can get the point.

ok i was just kidding its a good picture for a phone. Infact i bet your phone is awesome, as you might have noticed, i am a fan of retro stuff. I lost my phone recently and instead of buying something new, i biught a slightly older model of sony ericcson from like 2004 because i thought it looked cool. If i could, i would carry a very old brick cellphone from the 90s the one with the flipout cover and the pullout antenna. All russian gangsters in the 90s had one, before anyone else could afford them. so if i had that cellphone, a black leather jacket, a black 1993 BMW 7 series i would be just like a russian gangser of the 90s lol. wow that was quite a rant
