Hey, what do you guys think of this, I heard on the news that Apple were now worth more than Microsoft, and it seems to be true, despite the fact that Microsoft made more profit than Google or Apple. Personally I can't stand Apple, i think iPods are way overrated and overpriced, iMac's are nothing special( mainly because I don't like the feel of OSX ) and I think that iPads are just... well pointless.

Just wondering what everyone thinks, will Apple overthrow microsoft?

I certainly hope so. My dad owns an iPad and it is so fun. It isn't necessarily the most productive thing, but it is the best multimedia recreational platform I've ever used.
And I'm currently browsing on an iMac.
But I feel like this isn't true or something. I'm gonna look it up and come back to you. Just because I'm very surprised that Apple caught up that quickly. I knew they were doing really well, but I didn't think THAT well.

I think the IPhone, IToaster and IDontKnowWhatElse they make has a lot to do with it. It's not just about operating systems.

Apple's worth more because they are masters at marketing, so people see their products as stable investments.

Also, adding that bootcamp support for XP/Vista/7 was really a brilliant move. Gives people a reason to buy an Apple PC over one of the other manufacturers. It helps people justify the extra cost of a Mac.

And hey, can't knock the iPod Touch, I post on here with that thing and it's oodles of fun. Considering jailbreaking it so I don't have to learn Obj-C to code for it.

Check out this WIP flash game from the Global Game Jam!

I never cared for the differences in the companies, but the products they create. I will buy whatever product i personally prefer and don't get sucked into OS wars or who is worth more than who as it doesn't really matter in the end. I only hope that this will kick microsoft up the arse so they start generating more new ideas and products, fueling a brilliant war with awesome products coming out left, right and center. Doesn't matter which company comes out on top at the end, the consumers will be the real winners.

Lately though, i have become a little peeved with Apple due to the way the App store is "run" and moderated. Everyone knows there are some blurry areas, but it just seems that a company as big as Apple shouldn't feel the need to suppress small developers as much as they do. This annoyed me to no end aswell as i was finally looking forward to upgrading my copy of Flash and get into Iphone development. Not trying to start any kind of war but it personally bugged me. I believe this is why they have excelled, sure the iphone/Ipad sales have certainly helped but it's also the fact that if you want to develop anything for either of them, you have to go and fork out for another of Apples products, great for them, but not so great for us...

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but the Ipad essentially runs a version of the Iphone software, does it not? If it ran the full Leopard OS and had support for a pen, I would be the first in line for it. It would be one of the cheapest tablet PC's on the market and quite easily the best.

I too became overly frustrated with Apple for this very reason, not sure where their personal grudge against Adobe came from, heck if it were not for things like Photoshop the Mac militia would have had nothing as a reason for why they were still buying Mac's. Apples current policies about deciding what they are going to ban on a product you buy, Flash, Porn etc is making them look more like the evil empire people always accused Microsoft of being. There old 1984 based ad makes me laugh pretty hard now as they have become big brother. I guess its all to protect their app store, how can you get someone to shell out 2.99 for a game if the person could go to newgrounds, kongregate etc and play games for free.
