Does the customBSP format support all the same features as the Quake3 & Half Life BSP formats?

That is, does it support lightmaps/lights etc? If the answer is yes, then how can I make use of this format?

I model in 3DS Max R4, will I be able to use Max lights to light my level before I export to the compiler, and will the customBSP compiler then use those lights to create the pre-processed lighting and shadow maps for my levels? If not, then how should I go about creating levels in Max?
