Can anybody tell me how it can possibly be on my computer and should I trust it or remove it?

No a proxy masks your browsing. Basically a way to pass filters that are in place, not entirely sure why there on your system but who knows eh?

not quite.

Technically a proxy is a service where you request network information and the proxy server requests that information on your behalf. It has a place for both legitimate or illegitimate uses.

For example, a lot web filtering technology is proxy server technology! (the proxy server takes your request and decides whether to return the requested information)
