Hello,

Since Geek Culture tends to be awash in death metal fans I thought I'd post this here.

I've always been a fan of electronic music, everything from Drum n Bass through Electro House and Trip Hop. Lately I've become addicted to a particular set of tracks which use female vocals on top of the usual electronica kick drums, snares and bass lines. Anybody else like this? Here are some examples of what I mean:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcoBZqv2-3U (this video is bugged, you need to skip the play head around 20 seconds)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mx0UmlBDnYg (this is actually Culture Shock - Bad Red, with vocals layered on top)

To me this type of music is very relaxing and dreamy, despite being built on 4/4 beats and dancefloor shuffles.

What do you think is the role of vocals in electronica? Does it turn a 'track' into a 'song'? Do female vocals make a difference to male vocals? Do you know any tracks that are vastly altered by the addition or removal of a vocal layer?
