I must have been about six when my dad got a home computer, and this was probably the first game I ever played, the violence had NO LASTING EFFECT

Some other legends from my childhood were:

Tony hawks 2 (played this one first, so didn't like the first)
Midtown Madness 2

...Actually I think most of my early childhood gaming was spent playing the first 3 chapters of half life

I have just replayed "Sanitarium" after a long time. Boy, I didn't remember how much I love old school adventure games.

And that cover is just crazy.

"Grim Fandango" is another game I'm very fond of.


I can understand why FMV games didn't got all the attention they deserved (film makers are noted for not understanding that games are about interactivity) , but there are many jewels, like "The X-Files Game".

My fondest memories of early games (not including games me or my Dad programmed in Basic) were of playing Zork with my Mom. We would both brainstorm about puzzles but I would make all the maps since she wasn't too good at it. I learned how to spell pretty good just by playing all the Infocom games we would get.

Hmm? I guess the Atari, Commodore, Spectrum, etc, weren't PCs - but you could do real programming on them .

Have we had this one yet?



System Shock 1. No other game I've played has quite captured the incredible blend of excitement, joyous exploration and slight fear that I felt playing the first level. And that was the one where I was just hitting robots with a pipe, for goodness' sake. Oh, and SHODAN is pure hard-boiled cyber awesome, obviously.

This game is awesome. Shame the voice acting lets it down, but the soundtrack is ace and the graphics are terrible. They're usually the 2 things you should look for in a great retro game.

Does anyone else remember The House of The Dead series in the arcades?

I gotta point this out. DOES anyone remember the 90s PC gamer magazines??? i really miss thouse back then these were published for only geeks pretty much and the advertizing was so much more funny and creative unlike now i ad an entire pile of them (from 1995 to 2002) if anyone can find any pc gamer advertizement (like voodoo RAGE 16m will BLOW YOU AWAAAYYY) or the really old anienware magazines back when alienwares only difference is just the color of the case. If anyone could please find anything from that era on the web it would be a great nostalgia trip for me

Discworld! What happened to those charming point and click games?


Devil May Cry. It came with my PS2 and I HATED it. It wasn't until about a year later when I was bored I gave it a second chance and I got really into it.

this isnt exactly PC gaming nostalgia but back when i was a kid we couldnt afford computers but we had consoles like Dendi (a chinese snes clone) and sega genisis (first 3d games i ever saw) we played racing games and mortal combat 3, contra platformer games duckhunt etc. and what i miss the most is back then we actually had to buy books and strategy guides for games to get all the cheats and unlock secret stuff. I miss 1996 we didnt even know what internet was and a playstation 1 was our greatest dream!

Here are some of my games that I used to play when I was a lot younger. Man, these images bring back such good, nostalgic memories.

First up: GIANNA SISTERS! This was one of the best platform games that I've played on the Commodore 64! There where others, but not as good as this one!



Also on the good old Commodore 64, there was this Winter Sports game. Really good too!



This next game, I played on the first (or second) computer that I bought myself. I think it was a Pentium 1, Windows 95, and it costed about € 1700, which is 2,372.01 USD, or 1,512.47 GBP. For that amount now, you can have a pretty good PC. Back then, this PC was only a 'mid range' PC!
But, this was one of the best Rally games that I played back then. The graphics were not as good as today, but the gameplay was top, and the sence of speed was excellent.



Hahaaaa!! The next game brings back lots of sleepless nights! This horror/suspense game was one of a kind! Really awesome!



And here is the good old 'Police Quest S.W.A.T.' series. Really good too!



Surprisingly, no one mentioned 'MORTAL KOMBAT'??
Well, here it is. Loved that game!



Aaah, nostalgia...sweet good old times...

Slayer rules!!! Yeaaah, man!

And then a personal favorite:

Star Control (Star Con). Star Control 2 was the best of the series and was later released under an open source licence and retitled UrQuan Masters
LOVE it.

Not so retro / Not so PC:

Can't wait for the new one coming out on the Wii in a month
Fun fact about DKC: I once had the world record for beating Donkey Kong Country in the shortest amount of time and getting 101% (back then it was 1h 4m) but have since then been beat out multiple times. An attempt to reclaim my title put me at 53m.
