I downloaded the free version of unity 3D and i have to say it is amazing! anyone who wants to get serious should consider getting this game engine. it is compatible with blender, 3D studio max. it soo simle to get your head round it uses C# coding which is easy to learn (my opinion) i didnt know a thing about this software and i have already created a fully functional level!

yes, i do agree, it is a very good engine even for beginners but you have to have an at least halfway decent GPU in order to get anywhere with it.

I had a quick look again. It still costs over $1000 for the pay version. I'm assuming this is the one you have to get to sell your games?

Give me DBPs £30 price tag any day. It might not be as powerful, but what good is all that power if you still make a rubbish game? I think an excellent game concept will do well in whichever language you use.

I'd consider giving Unity ago as and when I had something worth porting for sales purposes.

Insert piccy sig here. Eh? Why didn't that work?!?! Must ring help-a-noob. What was the number again? .... where am I?

Unity is definitely a great program. Although I prefer UDK. It's a harder learning curve and is generally a bit harder all around, but you can potentially make Gears of War with it. So, I'm happy Although if the Unity price tag dropped to something more affordable for a high schooler then I would think about getting it.
