[TGC Staff Edit] *** No forum member may use the TGC banding without written permission. The subject title has also been altered. Please select your own branding for this Lan party, and good luck with it! ***

Just so you know, this event IS NOT endorsed by TGC. It is merely an unofficial meetup made by members to have a chat and play games

Well. As some of you may know, quite a few members of this great forum are from the great city know as "Newcastle" in North East England.

Now, i have a few connections and i am willing to setup a community LAN event in a professional venue in the centre of Newcastle during the 6 weeks holidays. The event would be held between 11 AM and 10 PM at some point between the 1st to 7th of August 2010 at some point.

We will probably meet up outside of "The Gate" at around 10:30 AM on the day to get there for around 10:40 and possibly get in early.
You MUST register when you enter (its free and takes 5 minutes) and have a quick 'brief' by myself before getting under way with gaming and whatnot.

Pricing of the event is being discussed right now but wont rise too much. There are well over 90 games there including steam account logins for your personal accounts aswell. There is also access to various communication programs (MSN, Skype etc...) aswell as the internet (IE and Firefox)

Food including drinks, sweets, hot beverages and snack meals (noodles...) are also there. There are multiple takeaways and chip shops around the surrounding area aswell as a burger king about 100 meters round the corner.

-----------------------------------------------------

General Rules will apply:

No Illegal Substances (Drugs etc...)
No Alcohol
No Hacks
No Memory Sticks

If any of those rules are broken the chances are you will have to pay a fine (if you damage the computer or pay for a new PC Explained below)

Hacking will result in having to pay for a new computer system as punk buster registers to the computer, once its banned you need a new PC to play again.

Guest List So Far!

Me (Shaun of the Dead)
Jake Robson (Asteric)
Karl Jacques (Mad Nightmare)

-----------------------------------------------------

If you wish to attend please post BELOW with the following information and also email me the information along with your mobile number so I can contact you on the day if changes of plan are made for whatever reason.

If this event cannot take place because of whatever reason your information will not be kept.

EMAIL ME THIS INFO ASWELL AT ready1995[AT]googlemail.com

The exact dates for this meeting will be given closer to the time but will DEFIANTLY be within the dates I specified above. So will prices. All payments for the event must be payed for A.S.A.P once i find out exact amounts (we will talk about these Via email). The faster you say you wanna go the faster i can get prices

Thanks all you people.

You stay classy, TGC ;D

Im not sure if most of the games we will be playing will be on steam.

Please just keep posting to questions about the event itself rather than playing with eachother on steam until we get a conformation please

If you wish to participate from another computer it will be quite hard but we will talk about that later on.

It's always said 13 in the AUP but the mods have enforced 18 for as long as I can remember - it's just one of those unwritten things really, it's for your own safety in the end

Ontopic, I would come but I live in Yorkshire and it's a bit far to travel for 1 day xD

Well. I like to go by official rules rather than something just thought up. I always heard from most mods its 13 anyways, because people above 13 are generally smart enough to choose where they post their age and how they do it.

A quick train journey wouldnt be too bad blobby

How did I know you were going to complain? Just because I caught you out when you were trying to claim another person's work as your own, doesn't mean you can do what the hell you want.

I'm telling you. Do not post your age if you are under the age of 18. As blobby 101 said, its an unwritten rule that all the mods enforce.

Bet you don't feel so clever now hey?

Bigadd. Im sorry, but unless the rule is written OFFICIALLY by the company that owns this forum you cannot expect that rule to be enforced properly, just because you want to use your own moderator rules.

Im not doing "whatever the hell i want" im playing by the official rules written by the game creators that you must agree to when joining, i agreed to them. I have sent an official enquiry into TGC to ask about this rule, i cannot be banned or slapped without reason and this includes following a rule not set out by those who run the company.

I am not arguing with you. I am making the point that we are allowed to follow the official rules and will continue to do so.

Monkey Mja@ Steam is an application that allows you to download and play many games by just using one program. Of course, these games must be bought before you can play. it is also excellent for trying demo's

Since when is it my rule?

The only problem here is that you have a problem with me since our little incident a few months ago.
And the very fact you sent an email to TGC just goes to show that you want some way to "get me back" for catching you out.

I don't see why you have to get so upset about a little request? Nobody was slapped or banned.

Oh well.

Your own moderator rules. Rules thought up by you moderators that cant be officially acted upon by slapping and/or banning.

Now, if you wish to continue talking about this matter further please use email rather than this thread please.

I love how you are so quick to quote the AUP... but oops! you missed something:

3.17 Our forums are moderated by both TGC employees and trusted non-paid members of the public who volunteer their services and time for the benefit of the community. By using our forums you automatically agree that they cannot be held personally responsible for any actions arising from these forums. You agree that moderators shall, at their discretion, determine what constitutes a violation of these terms, along with generally accepted netiquette standards, and can take action against those who voilate these rules.

Why are they all of a sudden my rules?

Maybe next time you should take what was a simple request and not turn it into some sort of clever way to get at me because you have some sort of problem with me.

And I think you will find I can issue slaps and bans based on my own discretion.

violation of the terms would be posting UNDER 13 as the AUP suggests.

Please stop being such an ass towards me. I made a simple comment saying you couldnt enforce a rule like that and you are simply victimising me because of an issue we had a number of months ago. You have no right to enforce an unoffical rule that cannot be constituted to by violation of that term.

You have no right to act like this towards me because out out little problem and you have no right to spam my thread either. You should have the intellectual to take this outside of the forums because you clearly have a problem with me.

Just keep going on with the thread as it is. Although I really do not feel comfortable with giving out your age to someone who is essentially a stranger.

So really just be cautious please people. If you are under the age of 18, do not give out your age, especially considering this is an event where people plan to meet up.

I was initially going to lock the thread, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt.

Really if you are under-age, you should be accompanied by an adult to such events.

Looks like I took too long to add my back-up for Biggadd - here's my highly edited version ...

@Shaun,
Stop arguing (3.12 - trolling, argumentative), do as the moderators have asked (3.17 - moderators discretion) or suffer the consequences (3.15 - Withdrawal of forum privileges).

There, is that enough 'rules lawyer' for you?

Now, if you need to know peoples ages, then take it off the forums by getting the info you require by email, and don't forget to get parental permission.

To be honest, this is probably a more sensible idea. Although we may seem like a harmless bunch on this forum, its easy to forget how dangerous the internet actually is, especially if you are giving out your ages and a place to meet.

You can never be too careful.

Mods... or something... can you please change the AUP then? because this crap is annoying. Half the time a mod says "don't post your age if your under 18" someone's like "nuh uh its 13". Change the AUP to sort this out. please. I mean, I know mods are t3h 14w and all but... this age limit thing is annoying - especially if age is relevant to the conversation, and people aren't totally sure whether its allowed or not.

BTW i'm on the 13 and under rule side... not that it matters XD

We don't have control over the AUP unfortunately, but all the mods enforce the 18+ rule.
When someone does post their age if they are under the age of 18, we don't slap or ban them, we just ask them not to.

Damn... I remember reading it was 13 in AUP, but when mods said 18, then I just went with it, 'cause I knew they know their job. Sad that it had to go this way, but what you gonna do. This seemed like an interesting idea.

It really should be 18 in the AUP, that will hopefully change shortly. It really is for your protection why we enforce this.

I agree with the online idea, because that way a lot more people would be able to participate, and it's really a lot safer... the mods enforce the 18+ rule for a good reason.

Quote: "We don't have control over the AUP unfortunately, but all the mods enforce the 18+ rule."

But... an e-mail to whoever does should fix that issue, right? I mean, its not like those aren't forum-specific rules. The 13+ rule i've heard is because US laws (I know US laws, maybe other countries) prevent data collection on people under 13 without the formal consent of their parents - and I'm pretty sure this is the case for this common rule.
I don't see how an 18 and under rule helps anything at all. Wouldn't it be better to let people know about everyones age before a 13 year old shows up to a lan party with a bunch of 30 year olds? That's the only kinda bad situation I can realistically imagine occurring.
Besides, most of the time, you can tell someone's a minor by the way they type, or if they say what grade they're in, or what subjects they're taking, or any of a number of things they talk about in posts. You're basically taking something that could be specific and making it a tad bit fuzzy.

But... whatever. I'm not actually arguing for anything, just voicing my point that the rule *may* provide a small bit of security through ambiguity against the small probability of a threat - and that's not really worth anyone's headache.

A 13 year old should not be let away, all alone into strangers at all. And that is that.
