note for everyone: this was made with Dark GDK.

Good start, but you're not finished.
What your program needs is a bit of smoothing in the brushes and a better gui.

This is my new GUI and interface for terrain edit.

more brushes, contour lines can be added, I also added a toolbar too it, , a color changer, and the display also shows the user in a elliptical form the area the user is painting.

Tell me what you think of the GUI I still have a lot too do on the program but, I need some advice.

I would add a brush for "Rough" terrain and a texture function. So far it looks great. the brushes look a little too organic, though. I mean, they are all diamond-and-circle-ish.

acually i going to seperate in into 3 layers too.

I guess your right about the brushes. I should include like a sin wave brush type or rethink the brush all together to have the user
have a more custom feel. I just not sure how to rethink it. I guess i need to explore some math functions to get better brushes.

The first layer suppose to contain the hightmap.
The secound layer contains the color of the hightmap. this will be a transparent color.
the third layer contains the contour lines that can be turned on and off.

Once I get that done I learn how to add grass or x file in the 3d view and have a brush for that and add a gui too it. The brush will load a grass

Accually rethinking the diagram I know am looking at a 6 layer system which will consist of environmental factors, terrain colar contrast, the hightmap itself, and plant life. This new diagram I have rethought for a couple of days and think it might be a better approch of developing the project.

Ah, its awesome to see that you diagrammed your engine. This has been the premature death many of my projects over the years. Keep it up. This height map maker looks like it has potential.

Actually I redesigning the hole thing so their are layers and you can and boxes, cones, plains, but the more I look at dark GDK I see that it is a big waste of time does not support 3d text for example.
