Okay, I've made a simple model of a low-poly spaceship. I'm trying to texture it, but I noticed something weird. Whenever I change the draw type to "textured" to see what I've done, a hole appears in my model. It's odd, it's only appearing in one side, even though the sides are mirror images of each other. Also, the hole in the bottom disappears when I change my view. I've tried to select the points and make a face, but it says there's already a face there.

One thing I think could have caused the problem is that I recalculated my normals.

tl;dr - there's a hole in my model that I didn't make, see screenshot, wat do?

1: Recalculate normals outside
in editmode mesh > normals > recalculate (or ctrl+n)

in the solid draw mode blender draws all polygons double faced, this is not the case in textured draw mode.

2: Hit Alt+H to unhide all geometry, make sure you're in editmode.

Hm... I just tried that. When I hit ctrl+n once, one of the faces reappear, when I hit it again, that face disappears. I am in editmode, and alt+h isn't doing anything.

Hmm, it really seems like a face normal problem. Instead of CTRL+N, you might have to flip face normals manually. Get into Edit mode, and then in the Editing tab of the Buttons window, select Draw Normals. You should see little blue lines protruding from each face. You might have to increase the size them more visible. After that, look at the problem faces and see if the lines point the same way as the surrounding faces. If they're opposite (pointing into the model as opposed to out of it), select the face, and then hit either W or CTRL+F and select Flip Normals (this command is available from either menu).

Hopefully that does it.

Thanks Kira, that helped. I couldn't find the "Draw Normals" thing, but I just selected the faces and manually flipped the normal. It's good now. Yay.

Excellent. Glad to hear it worked.
