Well, after spending far too many hours playing next gen games, i came across my N64, which is still in my opinion, the best platform made. During my childhood i spent probably thousands(no joke) of hours playing Ocarina of Time.

The game was truly a masterpiece, and i remember getting my dad to do the hard bosses, or anything that was remotely scary, hay, im still scared of some elements of that game, the zombies for example.

The reason i started playing again is because i never ever finished the thing, i always spent my time redoing stuff or just messing around, i mean the game is so incredibly long as well, and each area is so unique, and yes im a big fan boy, who couldnt be?

Yeah the goal is to complete the game in a week, just the main story, it would take me way to long to collect everything, and the fact that i love the game so much means i will be looking at some nostalgic moments in the game for a huge length of time.

How many people have played/completed the game out of curiosity? Im sure many here have at least played the game before, and i dare anyone to say they dont love it

Day 1
Got up to here:

Completed both the forest and fire(goron) quests, so i have the zora stone to get, the fish maze always confused the crap outa me, probably took me 3 hours to get this far.

So yeah, would like to hear some responses about the game, did i mention i love it?

This is easily one of my favorite games. Although I really, really hate the water spiritual stone and water temple, other then those 2 things everything else was AMAZING especially the forest stone and temple!

I wish they would remake this game with better graphics though for the Wii, not that 3DS thinger coming out.

I've never beaten it (not surprising if you know me pretty well, ask Shadowtroid) but I have beaten the Oracle series a few times. I have to say that those two games are some of the greatest games ever, especially considering that they are GBC games. I want to find Link's Awakening DX for a good price somewhere, has anyone played it? Is it awesome?

I've played and beaten all Zelda games except for Mask of Majora and Spirit Tracks. (I actually picked up Spirit Tracks this morning! ) Even though Ocarina of Time was pretty epic, I'd have to say my favorite of the series is A Link to the Past. Link's awakening is a close second. I loved the way you could assign the items to the A and B buttons.

Don't you mean Oracle?

I played this game when I was young. I loved it, one of the few games I beat when I was younger. Of course now I wouldn't stop until it's beat.

I recently got Majora's mask for Virtual Console. I kinda forgot about it...Thanks for reminding me to play it Asteric.

My favorite Zelda game was Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. I had the gold cartridge version. Lot of fun to play. Though half way through I figured out I could use the downward sword strike to bounce on floating skulls. Farm them for a few hours and I was max leveled.

Nah, it wasn't so bad. Even though you go back to the beginning, I'm pretty sure you keep your health/magic/strength levels and all items. You just lose the experience you had for the next upgrade.

Quote: "Though half way through I figured out I could use the downward sword strike to bounce on floating skulls."

I used to just harvest in the beginning even though it took like 50 hits to kill them, but they did give you some awesome XP; 50 if I remember. But yeah, once you got the downward strike, it was easy to harvest, and by that point it didn't take as many hits.

Quote: "water temple"

This is the only level that gave me problems in Ocarina. If I remember right, it was from some block that floated up from the very bottom, and unless you were right next to it you couldn't tell that there was an opening behind it. I remember it taking a loooong time to finish that temple.

Well, it took me about 4 days in hospital on an emulator, to do the main story. Got the fire arrows, and all the ocarina songs on the way. Couldn't be bothered with the gold skulltulas.

Right now, I'm on the Great Bay Temple in MM. I haven't touched that game in months, and link is still stood at the beginning. I hated that place as a kid

In retrospect, I'm finding I like Majora's Mask a little more than Ocarina. But, Ocarina of Time was such a huge part of my gaming-related childhood, and it was so well put together, that it still tops my list. It's like no game since then has quite captured that magic that makes a game memorable for a lifetime.

Check out this WIP flash game from the Global Game Jam!

Majora's mask is more twisted and unique, and I like that. But OOT is definitely more legendary.

I recently re-bought a gamecube, and I'm considering digging up my N64 and re-buying the win games. (Fed up of emulation)

@PWP

I LOVED METROID PRIME!!!

That game was so fun.

I should continue MM now. Honestly one reason I think I forgot about it is that I have an HD screen, and obviously it's not compatible, so that aspect ration kinda annoys me.

But yes. Today I will continue. I think I was about to start the Great Bay temple...

I've got a stockpile of Adaptoids that I snatched up before they became almost impossible to find, for playing N64 games on emulators:

Do you remember the feeling when you stepped out onto Hyrule field for the first time? I was in wide-eyed wonder. That game had such a great sense of place to it.

Has anyone tried the downloadable Zelda 64's for Wii? Just wondering if they made any improvements or implemented any Wii motion control to the original.

The TV should have an option to use pillarboxing (black bars on the sides of the image) to prevent it from being stretched.

Ocarina of Time on the N64 only uses 320x240. The Wii can handle resolutions higher than that.

Wanted to have my say.

This has to be, in my opinion, the best Zelda game ever made. It must have over 60 hours of game play, lots of dungeons to explore and defeat. Collecting the weapons was just one of the things that was fun to do, having to explore and figure out puzzles to get to them.

Twilight Princess is my second favourite Zelda game though.

I accept your dare.
Kidding.
Well I wouldn't say I'm a huge Zelda fan but I did enjoy the game, but the part that really pissed me off was the water temple.
Great game though. Like you, I also got someone else to do the scary parts.

The water temple had to be one of the trickiest parts of the game, raising and lowering the water level to get to certain areas, drove me mad and probably still would.

I've got to play that this summer, before work starts up again

Same here, I hated that temple, it took me forever to figure since I don't like using guides in games (it just makes them too easy, and for a game like Zelda that revolves around puzzles, it sort of ruins it). I loved it though, best Zelda game, maybe even the best game ever.
I remember playing it on my n64 when I was like 5, I thought that all you had to do was kill the skeletons at night in Hyrule Field I wasn't really scared of anything in the game except the monster Ganon.
I thought the music in the game was pretty cool, especially the forest and spirit temples.
I've beaten it a few times, since I actually own it I can play it with an emulator without feeling too guilty. I just use a logitech rumblepad (same as the PS2 controller, which makes since because logitech could've manufactured PS2 controllers). That's my 2 cents

Yeah the music was incredible, and what i just noticed when i continues to play the game today was how seamless it could blend background music like the hyrule field music straight into the hyrule fight music (The music was similar only that the music in the chorus? was very harsh and spiky) I found this so subtle but so very nice

Spent too long away from the game, only just beat fire temple now, then to shadow, my least favorite one.
