Got my first tattoo today - my sister took a concept I wanted, designed it and tattooed it and I am pleased with the result, it's a rendition of the Dharma wheel (symbol for Buddhism) representing the 8-fold path, but done in a style I like.

My sister is currently training to be a tattoo artist and she's practiced on a few people now, she's just now waiting until she can afford to fund her qualification so she can actually do it for a living - currently she's got all of the know-how and the safety precautions, and I think it ought to be easy for her to go through all of the other stuff.

In terms of getting it done...I was expecting it to be more painful, yes, it hurts, but not enough to prevent me from concentrating on reading a book during the process and it was pretty easy to withstand. Getting my old dreads done was more unpleasant, with all that constant tugging of hair.

And no, no one can poke it.

Here's a picture:

It'd be interesting to hear of any tattoos anybody here has had done.

PS: I had to shave one of my legs...dude, I feel like a lady (so smooth!).

Nice leg,...err...tattoo!

I don't have a tattoo right now, but if I would have one, I would have the word 'Tattoo' tattooed.
Now, I'm just kidding. It would definatly be something related to metal, like the Slayer logo, or Behemoths' sign.

My sister's got that on her foot (in Japanese).

Would be interesting, but I probably wouldn't do it (even though my brother wants an Opeth tattoo), generally because in a few years time I might not like the band for one reason or another - change in taste or some member of the band does something horrible that I'd object to. Though some bands I can see living with me forever and it's rare for a Gary Glitter to turn up in the music industry.

lol Bond1. You probably should have added some noise, it'd make it look more real.

I don't have one, nor do I plan to get one. No hate-seeded feelings, I just don't have that much commitment to...Anything really.

I don't like Leg tattoos, I prefer ones on the back and arms. Legs just seem really ugly where ever you put them, but hey, just my opinion. But I have to say your Sister looks like she'll become a great tattoo artist. Has she done any coloured tattoos? But nice for a first, the Buddhism wheel looks really good.

I really want to get a tatoo, but i think i am not worty of a tatoo since i am not a badass muscular guy, i am short skinny and i wear glasses. People might judge me think i am trying to be a showoff or something, Also as much as i want a tatoo, i really dont know what tatoo i want. most of my coworkers have tatoos but they were all either in the army or in a gang or prison or they are just badass people.

Haha, now you've photoshopped it, you have to get it done.

I had difficulty choosing wear I wanted it, but felt leg was best in the end.

She's done a couple of coloured tattoos, one for her friend who wanted a vampire voodoo doll in red and black. But yes, she's doing quite well for herself, it's a shame she couldn't find an apprenticeship, but she'll be off to do a qualification soon, so she might be able to give up her job in retail and do what she wants.

If you think it'll look good and you want one, then what does it matter? I mean, you don't need to be badass, as much as I'd like to be, I'm not.

I want to get a tattoo on my left arm, on the underside just above my elbow. I wouldn't recommend anyone to get any band name or anything they'll likely regret in 20 years.

Not if they put TOOL in there. Other case? Maby. But I'm still with my looping image.

What you planning on having done Jeku?

I liked TOOL 4 years ago, really enjoyed watching them live...now, not hugely keen on them, I don't mind them but I haven't put on a TOOL album for a good long time now. Sadly, tastes do change and you can't always be sure if your favourite bands will remain your favourite.

However, I'd feel sorry for the tattoo artist who has to do your looping one.

Some girl told me that in Japan "Hello Kitty" is "Kitty Chan"...
maybe "Chan" is "Hello" in Japanese.. and not only that I think the "Hello Kitty" brand is Koren.

It isn't, -chan is like -san, which is used in attachment to a name when addressing somebody, so it's pretty much just 'Kitty', no doubt because Konichi-wa Kitty doesn't have the same ring as 'Kitty-chan', right Slayer-chan?

We used to have a similar principle on our radio show, Trollhouse, except with 'troll', so I was Seppuku-troll.

Well, Slayer has been (one of) my favorite band(s) and still is, and the same goes for Behemoth. I like them for their music. And I don't think they'll suddenly become rapbands or something like that(not that I have a problem with someone elses musical preferences), so the chance of regretting their name tattooed upon my skin would be very tiny.
However, having the name of your girlfriend tattooed, would be a mistake IMO. The day she leaves you, you'll probably regret having her name on your skin while looking for someone else.

Don't get one on your back unless someone you REALLY trust to proof-read comes along with you, and make sure that person can spell. Where I used to work a young employee came in, lifted his shirt and proudly asked everyone what they thought of the new tattoo on his back, which was a phrase in a calligraphic-style font with a few flourishes above and below the text. We all scratched our heads and said "why?" He remarked that " because it says it all about me; it explains me; it defines me: SCARRED FOR LIFE". He had apparently been jilted by his girl. The problem was that it said "SCARED FOR LIFE."

Then you can remind them with your tattoo... and even today Justin Bieber passes as music, so if future keeps going to the same direction, that might be possible... sadly.

Ha ha, well, go with what you find is comfortable - remember, the whole culture behind metal is acceptance, so you don't HAVE to be a fan of piercings, though obviously you'd need to tolerate them when you go to a gig or festival. Personally, I'd never get a piercing myself.

I've always been tempted by the idea of having a full back tattoo, but it'd be something I'd have to put a lot of thought into - currently my sister has designed me one I like that ties in Buddhism with Norse mythology, reminiscent of my identity as a Buddhist Viking (aka The Little Norse Prince), I've got away with having Jormungandr on that one because in Buddhism it represents protection and in the Norse mythology, he's the beast that encircles all of the continents. But I'm not entirely sure about that one yet, obviously, as it's permanent, it's a big decision.

With the Dharma wheel, I've always wanted one.

I think you can get around the band tattoo by doing a tattoo reflective of the bands album or logo style - my Dharma wheel was based off of the style of an In Flames cover, namely because I liked the style, but also, I love In Flames, if that ever changes, it doesn't actually matter because the tattoo is different enough.

however thats not really what i care about, i care about the music, and i mean the music itself, not what the music is about, it just needs to sound good to my ears :3

i would love to get a flame tatoo around my wrists however...

Hows this for an idea: The face of a watch tattoo'd on to your wrist, with the actual mechanics and hands as a percing. I'd love to get that done.
