Apart from obviously our name, what words would you expect to find the TGC website under in the search engines? E.g. "make your own game"? "fpsc game maker"?

Amazingness

Awesome

Stuff like that.

But honestly, anything related to your products. "first person shooter maker", "fps game maker," etc.

The phrase

game making software

produced a TGC site in the first few results.

How far did you look?

There are over 900000 results and I found it on Page 6 (anyone remember that magazine?).

A higher ranking would be nice though. [The more logical question "how to make computer games?" finds TGC on Page 3 - still not good enough to be seen I suppose. ]

If you happen to type in:
"How to create 3d games" Tgc is on the first page. Second and third link, and that's exactly what I wrote. I might have written easy somewhere in the between, but, that finds it too.

You might also consider promoting things like the score of 3d models here.

Play Sim Games- still in development

Would you guys type "make your own game" (or at least before you were aware of TGC) into search engines? It gets quite a lot of searches but it would be interesting to find out if the people here, who are obviously the type of people we want to attract, would type this in.

I might have shortened that to "game maker" or "make games" if I was searching

Interesting question. I originally found this site because I saw someone mention DarkBASIC on another game making site (the now defunct DIV2-arena or something like that). A simple search then got me here. I got my original DIV2 software from a local shop.

Of course, TGC might be hoping to attract a different type of person.

What about How to make a computer game or Model Packsor Game making forum.

It is the community that makes this place so popular in my opinion. You have everything you need in one place. It is cheap compared to a lot of products. You get the help that you need to use the products. If you need another product that is not sold here. There is information on where to get it.

Search for "game creation" in there, and you will get some good ideas.

Make video games
How to make a video game
How do I make a video game?
Video game development

We just need to take the perspective of a guy that's never heard of TGC before, hasn't used FPSC, doesn't know much about game development or programming, etc.

Its funny that this came up.

About 6 years ago...I had just started to get interested in game design, but i had no idea where to start.

I remember specifically, I searched "HOW TO MAKE GAMES", "HOW TO MAKE A GAME", and other similar phrases.

Thats how I found TGC all those years ago...

I have to say had I not found you guys in that search my life would have been very different.

If we can find a way to get TGC on the first page with searches like "how to make a video game" or some of the ones in my other post, I can guarantee that TGC will be more known. There's probably tons of people searching these basic things and stopping around the 2nd/3rd page.

I first learned of Dark Basic just over two years ago (at least I think it was two years, my memory has been getting worse and worse for the past five years), when a friend recommended it to me. I have no clue how he learned of it.

Just as a guideline: if it's around the 3rd/4th/7th/10th page, that is not very good. The closer TGC appears to the 1st page the better. Maybe you guys can ask Google for some sort of search history related to games and see what's been searched about it lately.
