have you ever had a freakish experience as a child that you remember vividly? >.>

i had one once; i was very young and i was swinging in my back yard one summer day, and saw this slug on the ground. i and my brother liked to poke their eyes and sprinkle salt on them, so i got down to take a closer look, only to see that it had a big horn on its head, and when i got closer it started thrashing about violently on the ground. i ran away in pure panic and told my parents. my dad caught it somehow and put it in a jar and poisoned it (probably with coolant or something). i've never seen another one in my life, and i don't know what it was, but if anyone knows, i want to know...WAS THIS A REAL ALIEN????

Remember those old guys? They made epic renders, I think one of them was called DaVinci, and all they used was MS Paint. Sometimes it's just skill....

lol I was at a pace and a random French Girl walks up to me and started saying things I didn't even understand and then she kisses me. I don't know why but it happened when I was about 4 or 5 years old.

I remember once when I was really young (like 4 or 5) I was in my room and the lights went out. Now I guess I was tired that day, because I got freaked and couldn't find my way out. It was pitch black.

Of course no one at home remembers it so it could've actually been a dream.

When I was a child, I got a fever. My hands felt just like two balloons - Now I have that feeling once again! I can't explain, you wouldn't understand, this isn't how I am!

i got tons. The freakiest thing happening to me so far was when i was about 5 riding my bike near the house. There was this lady sitting nearby, she jestured me to come over to her. so being the dumb child i was, i rode over, then she took hold of my bikes front wheel with her knees and started showing me all these religios icons of jesus and mary and stuff, i had no idea how to react to that so i just stared at them not knowing whats going on, then after she was done showing me all of them, she slapped me in the face and let me go. The thing that really freaked me out is the fact that she looked like my mother exept my mother was a prostitute who ran off after my dad died (heroin addiction, lung cancer and got beaten up nearly to death by the cops for stealing something) so thats my freakiest story i can think of, i am sure i have more.

I was around 5 or 6 and in my old house i remember waking up during the night in the dark. I saw the outline of a dinosaur and felt it move across my legs...

Didnt sleep without light for atleast 6 months because of that. Pretty freaky :S

When I was around 6 I was at the drive in and there was a set of circling lights in the sky. As people noticed it everyone forgot about the movie ands was staring up into the sky. Some were panicking, one guy yelling "take me". As the lights drew closer we came to notice the word "Goodyear" cycling back and forth. I have never again witnessed such a strange feeling as was projected by that crowd.

There was this one time when I was around 10. I was in my dad's car with one of my cousins, can't remember where we were going. The three of us were having a conversation, though I can't remember what it was about. I was saying something to my cousin, and then my father was saying something to me. I don't remember finishing what I was saying, and I don't remember my father begining saying something to me. All I remember is that I was saying something, and then the next thing I knew my father had said something to me. It's almost as if there is a gap in my memory.

I think I was abducted by aliens in the middle of the conversation!

Hmm...I suppose being born in the north of Wales, moving to Germany and then ending up in the South East of England to end up going to school and becoming very good friends with a person who was not only born in the same place, but also that our parents knew each other when we were born. I suppose that's freaky.

That was a caterpillar. Reminds me of when as a child I first came across a large elephant hawk moth caterpillar in the garden. I thought it was a snake and ran indoors shrieking to my parents.

Please, no slugs . I have a phobia of molluscs, there goes my secret .

@Image All,

That story was faintly like mine, but was how I developed a fear for slugs. We saw one exactly like the one you described and it was sat on the fence. Everyone gathered round and was looking at it. A few minutes later everyone went. I closed up to the fence and noticed it had disappeared. Next thing I know my back neck collar was pulled and I felt something down my back. Guess what it was.

I spent the whole day throwing up and watching my back EVERY second. Never found out who did it though.

There was also another time, completely different from the last story, when I was in that Futuroscope place with my parents when I was about 5. I threw a strop and sat on a low brick wall for about 5 minutes, and I then wondered where the hell my parents'd gone. I walked around trying to find my parents when an entertainment clown came up to me. I'm afraid of clowns too, did I say? I screamed and belted off down the path. Next thing I know, I'm looking at someone who was wearing the almost exact same clothes as my mum, so I tugged them, yelling "Mummy!". They turned around, and they turned out to be some megamaniacal French girl who said something very random. I stood there with a little smug smile, until I noticed that they weren't my mum. Funny how my mum was sitting on a bench right next to me, calling me. I felt like I was thrown into a land of identical people .

I also remember when I was a kid, a cousin of mine fell out of a speeding vehicle. (She was like 3!)

Our aunt just instantly stopped the car and ran out into speeding traffic to save her.

She's fine now. (Well, annoying as crap, but you get my drift. )

i tried beating my fear of spiders by toching them and letting them crawl on my hand or something, used to freak out girls in 4th grade with that Then there is the issue of knowing which spiders is it safe to have crawl on you. While i am not afraid of most spiders i am still freaked out by some insects like one summer this giant bug landed on the door screen so since i was on the other side i decided to toch it, i didnt think it could bite me, but what really freaked me out that it Hissed at me!. I actually saw how it opened its jaws and hissed at me! it was a pretty large and scary looking bug too. Happened when i was about 12. Also i remembered when i was about 5 again i saw this abnormally large dragonfly (maybe it looked large because i was small) i got scared and ran into the house. I dont know about large dragonflies but the smaller ones as sary as they look they are completley harmless, you can toch them and sometimes they wont even resist you or fly away.

Pictures can even put me off at times...at least I felt 'ick' after seeing all those images on google.

My psychology teacher back in sixth form had us studying 'phobias' and she asked who in the class had a phobia and I idiotically put my hand up - after a therapist and patient discourse in the class she traced it down to when my brother and sister used to like putting all sort of insects like spiders, daddy-long legs, grasshoppers (all of which frighten me) and so on down my back as a small child.

In essence, they've psychologically scarred me, I'd tell them, but they'd only find victory over it.

I think I must of been about 7 or 8 but I was in my room at night and I noticed an eerie figure that was seemingly staring through the curtains at me. It looked like a "Grey" Alien silhouetted against the orange tint coming from the street lights outside. Needless to say I was terrified and didn't dare get out of bed. For most of my childhood I was both frightened and intrigued about Aliens. My fear first started at the end of the movie "Close encounters of the third kind" (Which was broadcast one Christmas) when the Aliens emerge from the mother ship, I was about 5 then. Today, Greys still send shivers down my spine as I think back to those childhood moments.

Not exactly terrible, but I remember once I was so happy because I was sick and I stayed home from school, then it turns out had I gone to school I would have gone to the pound to pick out a dog. I was so sad that I couldn't look at all the puppies, but I almost fainted from happiness when that dog walked through the door. Then another day it chased me around the backyard while I was screaming "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" and you get the point.

I also rembember one day that I've mixed beer and wine. I was'nt drunk at all, but (it's an old saying) the order in which you drink beer or wine, has some influence on your brain. That evening there was Bram Stokers' Dracula on TV, so thereafter I went to bed, but I could'nt get to sleep. Wherever I looked, I saw flashes of creepy eyes and skulls rapidly coming closer to me, and it did'nt go away, so I went downstairs to ease my thoughts and smoke a couple of sigarets. I went back up, but the whole creepy scenario repeated itself. So, finally I fell asleep in the couch downstairs with the lights on. During the following four years, I did'nt drink ANY alcohol!
Maybe it was the order of beer and wine, or maybe it was the movie, or a combination of both. Who knows???

I used to dream before that phenomenon happened, but nowadays I no longer have dreams (or at least I don't remember them when I wake up). I guess my mind totally blocks my remembrance of dreams for some reason related to what happened.
But, it appears that I laugh quite often while asleep. I love jokes and funny stuff.

One time I was on the upper deck of a cruise ship with my cousin, and a rotating circle of white lights (like a UFO) silently rose from out of my view to eye level, probably 15 feet from the ship. It just rotated, and then silently moved away. It was the most insane thing ever. We were in the middle of nowhere.

I have a generalized phobia of sleeping alone

It's caused by a few memories manifested into recurring nightmares, as well as an irrational fear of losing reality before I wake up(hard to explain). When I have someone to sleep with, they're mostly non-issue, especially the latter, as anytime I wake in the night, there's a person there to "ground" me in reality, knowing they're still there.

All of this started around the time I was 12 It's varied in intensity over the years, but to this day hasn't gone away. Most nights nowadays it's not so much an issue, insomnia has taken over in its place, but I'll occasionally have a night of these problems

One day, a long while ago, me and a couple of friends went sailing, and we got stuck in the middle of a thunderstorm, and I couldn't see the shore at all ... by the time it was over we were miles away from the shore, and didn't get back until around two in the morning, that was an extremely scary experience. Also, I have on a couple of occasions sailed past sharks, which could be quite scary in a twenty-four foot sailboat where you could literally lean over and put your hand into the water.

There's got to be a joke about my old house-mate's ex-girlfriend in there somewhere. At least, she frightened me.

I hate being frightened of something so silly, spiders, this is England, it's not as if I'd see a red-back sitting in my toilet and of course, then comes the ridicule, and with whale-o-phobia I'm sure you can relate. If you have Wales-o-phobia instead, I might get offended. Though at least we're not as bad as the guy on TV who was scared of radishes.

I am scared to sleep with one of my friends... when he nad 2 others were at my house (we were playing the whoel day with Xbox and computer, and almost the whole night too, but... we slept for some time), for the lack of beds, I had to sleep next to him and he said, if I do anything, he will punch me in the face... I slept like a pencil on the other end of the bed...

That's one of the funny things though. I've always been comfortable sharing beds with friends. The group I've hung around the longest, we're all comfortable with ourselves and shameless, so really, there's nothing uncomfortable about it. There's no concern of "trying anything funny"(unless of course, the parties concerned were interested, but boundaries are set and known, hence why there's no issue). But, I guess I've never really had "normal" friends Far too many stories involving "<insert friend name> was naked where, doing WHAT?". Cartwheels was the worst, that's all I have to say on the matter. That image burns in your mind and never goes away.

For nakedness, I suppose in being the 'charity guy' in my student union meant I had to manage the sports and societies naked calendar, meaning I had to go to the photoshoots, which was at times disturbing at times...well, at least considering the Rugby lads had theirs done on the pitch and we had a hard time controlling them because instead of lining up for their picture like everybody else, they decided to play Rugby in the view of everybody walking to university, even doing a line in (so touching each other's rear ends).

If anybody has no shame, it's rugby boys. Footballers and American footballers, even they had shame.

On the other hand, there were the cheerleaders.

But I'm not disrespectful nor am I perverted, so instead I'm just going to leave you with an image I couldn't avoid seeing to burn into your mind, in spirit of Insanity Complex's post.

[edit]

Even better. I posed naked for that calender, that's sure to scar some of you.

[edit2]

Re-reading the thread title, no, this doesn't count as a childhood experience.

Where do I start for childhood experiences...

☼ Creaking of the floorboards outside my bedroom as though someone was walking to and fro.
☼ A little plastic cup I used to have on the bathroom sink thrown violently into the sink that it actually bounced around.
☼ A barrage of knocks coming from the wall next to me as though someone on the other side were knocking furiously, the other side of the wall was the bathroom.
☼ A very long, thin pale blue laser-like light that zipped between a number of gardens when I looked out my window at night.
☼ Knocks on my front door (on the third floor, when I moved into my own flat) waking me from a deep sleep only to find no one there.

All 100% true.
