- PW Productions (http://pwp-games.com/)

- Fate - Outpost November, is the first of two demos to take you into a closer look at the environment and gameplay of Fate. In this version, you, Shaun Pyrril, must investigate abondoned BioChem Industries Outpost November for clues leading to the whereabouts of The BioChem headquarters. But in this case, exploring does not come without surviving.

- In the level, you move very slowly due to the heavy gravity of the environment. Also, there is little oxygen in the base, so you will be continuously breathing off of a gas mask type mechanism, which you will hear quite loudly. Your helmet has a zoom ability activated only by certain weapons, in this case, the Heavy Assault Rifle. You can use this by right clicking and checking out the environment. Enemies will pop up when you least expect it, and you will run into a few as well. Preserve ammo, and be careful...

- All of my thanks are included inside the 'About' tab of the game launcher. This is the first of two demos to come of the main game Fate, and may still have bugs the full version will not. Thanks, and have fun!

- If you are having issues with enemies not showing up, please use the Launcher and turn shaders off. That'll solve all problems.

Oh? Which enemy? The first, second, or third? If they're black, they just look that way, it's the dark lighting

PW I think the problem is the shader, some shaders (the mp22,is one) doesn't work with ATI graphics. If that's the case,bond1 posted a fix.

Played it, loved it! One thing is, that even thou the gasmask sound was cool, I would make it a bit less loud. It went from scary to kinda annoying in a while and I figured, it may not be so annoying if it was a little bit quiet. Like you know, in Dead Space. It's loud enough to get that weird scared feeling to you, but not too loud to be annoying. Other than that, I thought it was great. I ran outta ammo, and felt very scared running around with the Pipe Wrench. The first enemy especially scared me.

I didn't use a shader for any of the enemies except the Lobotomy, and he shows up. I have an nVIDIA card with no problems, I don't know why someone wouldn't be able to see an enemy without a shader. Odd.

Downloading it PwP, can't wait to play . Definitely looks promising.

-EDIT- Played it and loved it .

Good:
-The jumps from minor occasion when you least expect it.
-Lighting
-The HUD
-Level Design

Bad:
-The breathing and some other sounds were pitched to one speaker (I wear my Turtle Beaches so I can tell what's let and right)
-

-Level Design lacked quality a little in some places.
-The M4 could've done with a little more of a Scifi retexture .
-The lights looked like they were emitting nothing judging by their illumination.

Ugly:
Nothing.

Funny:
-

Graphics: 7/10
REASON: Great atmosphere and feel, but some shaders could've done well.

Gameplay: 7/10
REASON: Felt a bit too linear, there was little returning to previous areas which is what I prefer to look for in games. I didn't get stuck either, which is both good and bad.

Sounds: 7/10
REASON: Very freaky, but some had the doppler problem as described before.

Music: 8/10
REASON: Eerie, perfectly fitted the environment.

Overall: 29/40
Opinionated BOTB Proabability: 65%

Great work PwP .

Gah, 29/40 isn't good enough

As for the breathing sound, I made it so that it would play through the left speaker, I didn't want it surrounding you and instead giving a sort of isolated feel...

Should I try for BotB though? I'm honestly not so sure.

Thank you for your review, but how many times do I have to say this? If your graphics card cannot handle certain shaders, please use the Launcher to set Shaders OFF. It isn't like it's my fault (for the most part, heh).

Finally got round to trying out your demo PW

Here is my review: (please note this is only MY opinion and read nothing more into it)

Game Launcher:

This was a big minus point. The mouse pointer is way to big and no indication is offered to the user if they are actually over a button. It feels little more than a blank page with text and a back ground, with none of the highlighted text (button) I would expect.
The background image whilst loading is very poor appearing to be an over stretched JPG set at a quality of 10

Opening scene:

The breathing is a little on the loud side. Overall level design looks very good, with good use of lighting. Textures at 1st appear good and all fit nicely into the general feel of the scene. Then they get let down by the overstretched bars texture and the poor UV mapping on the inner frame of the bulkhead door
Still this is a WIP demo, so nothing to worry about

Leaving the 1st room:

Right away I felt totally lost as to the purpose of the game and what my objective was. It seemed little more than wander about the open doors for the normal find a gun and key to progress?
Entered the 1st room, heard the cliché "something just spawned (or will do) in the hallway I left" sound and continued and got me gun.
Turned round and shot the cliché "lets spawn a zombie right behind you as you pick up your item".

Picked up the gun:

The position of the gun icon in the hud was not good, it really detracts the player eye and would be better placed down the bottom and/or more into the corner. I could not see any indication of how much ammo I had, is it unlimited ??

Leaving the gun room:

Shot the zombie I knew had (would) spawned after I left the hall and heard the sound. Then I took the next room, at this point the breathing was really grating on me and I was tempted to turn off my speakers to be honest.
On entering the next room and going towards the open door, heard yet another cliché "Uh Oh!! his behind you" sound, turned round and insta-died to the static shadow man
Whilst this may feel funny when making the map, it's not a very good idea in a game, as you should always make the player feel he has a chance. This made the game feel like one of them old adventure games, where you learn your route parrot fashion between the "oh you fell down a pit" game over screens

After this point, the game felt same after same after same, never once drawing me into any sort of plot/story or giving me any of the "I wonder what's round here" urge to explore. Every room looked the about the same, all spawns were predicable and to be honest little more than annoying at best

Overall:

Level design was pretty good, with good use of lighting and a nice tight texture set giving a solid feel to the level theme. Textures on a whole were good, but let down by inconsistent UV Mapping right in the players eye

Sound effects were not great and felt very "I got a sound effects pack and I'm gonna use it" Never really gelling together with way too much zombie moaning everywhere you walk and as to that breathing

Gameplay was all but non-existent, little more than walk through level killing everything that just spawned behind you, or where you just came from. The only thing the gameplay made me (as the player) want to do was press the end game button.

Conclusion:

I think you were looking for that Dead Space feel with a little Silent Hill whilst in the Big Daddy suit from Bioshock 1, but it just felt like yet another FPSC game

You you have a very good eye for level design in the whole, a good feel for lighting and your modelling skills are very good. This seemed like you got bored (ran out of idea's) after the 3rd room and just wanted to get a demo out. It is as if you just cut and pasted the same rooms/gameplay idea's over and over

Ending Note:

This review is just 100% honest personal opinion, with no currying favour or generic "don't want to get a mod slap keep up the good work" reply and nothing more.

I am not trying to hate on your game and in fact want this game to succeed, as I believe you are the type to always work at getting better

If this has offended you in anyway, I apologise as it was never my intention, it is just one persons honest opinion and I hope you accept it as that

Um... that was a stock door...

Quote: "cliché"

Yes I know it was really cliché but I had no other choice. Thanks to the terrible fog FPSC uses, if I were to spawn a character maybe in front of the player, and even in darkness where the player can't see it, the fog would make it look black. I'd no other choice but to make it cliché, as I'm not too good at making enemies fair for the player and not cliché while I'm at it.

Quote: "I think you were looking for that Dead Space feel with a little Silent Hill whilst in the Big Daddy suit from Bioshock 1"

Never played any of those games except the demo for Dead Space and BS. So no, I wasn't going for that look, but ok...

Quote: "is it unlimited ??"

No... Other designers have done this, where they show the hud yet not the ammo count I didn't know it would be that bad for some people.

Yes I know, I worked hard on the launcher yet not the loading screen/FPSC menu as I first thought the Launcher skipped directly to a loading screen. When I realised it didn't, I had to redo the menu in a hurry to get the demo out before I had other much more important ordeals to tend to...

Thanks for your review, possibly the harshest/most negative I've ever had, but it helps in the end. Thanks again

EDIT:

Quote: "inconsistent UV Mapping "

I only UV mapped three models, all of which were correct and showed no stretching. Most of the other models you may be talking about consist of Cosmic's and Stock retextures, yet not mine.

See that is why I have so much faith in you PW and know you will succeed

I guessed my review would appear a little harsh and I do apologise, but I'm a bit of a believer in being honest and saying it how it is.

I'm now going to get into trouble with CP over his retexures but then again as they are stock meshes (and the UV maps therein), it is not his or your fault at all and I retract that criticism forthwith

Your very mature response to my review (and lets face it I'm just another annoying FPSC newbie) just goes to solidifying my opinion of you and bolsters my justified faith in your work

I did love your "get out of my files" message, as I went straight into there to nose about

p.s. I have played a few of the demo's here of late and yours was the only one I wanted to review. This is because yours was the only one that I felt warranted a review. The rest (and I will not name them) I just forgot about fast.

I'm sorry if my post was offensive, sometimes if I don't use smileys I tend to accidentally write negatively

Your review was quite harsh, but very very constructive. To be honest, it was the first negative review I've ever received, which is a relief

You've released an official TGC model pack only a few months after joining and being active.... I don't think your a newbie, annoying, maybe

This is why you will get a BOTB logo one day.

Also the fact my model pack went official don't really stop me being a newb, just makes me a newb with a model pack is all

Nbt, I have to say that while this is not my game, I really like it that you're being honest and constructive with people. Most often around here it's either just kind words or offensive outbursts, it's nice to see something different.

On-topic now though, I have downloaded the game and will try it. I can't seem to get past the loading screen for some reason, but it did behave oddly when I extracted the demo so I'm gonna re-extract it and try again.

Yes, that was a bug with V1.17 beta 005 I believe. The loading bar wouldn't budge at the very end. Just retry, I'm using the stable 'full' release of 1.17 for the final release
