Lost Life

Hey everyone,

I finally am making a new game. It has been a really long time since I have posted in this section, and I have come a long way since I have been here. I hope you like it!

The game will be about 10-12 levels long, and it will be a commercial game (cheap like 5 bucks). My family and I and some neighbors are having a garage sale on the 13th so I decided to start a little experiment and see who buys them

Here goes the story:

The year is 2152...

Nexus Industries, a biological research company, has just discovered the key to creating artificial life...

They engineered a synthetic type of body implant called \"The Quantum Gene\"

The Quantum Gene had the ability to sustain infinite life in any organism...

Then, Nexus Industries initiated project D.A.W.N.

Project D.A.W.N. was an attempt at creating a synthetic life form engineered with the technology of the Quantum Gene that could sustain infinite life... Like the name of the research project, the life form was named Dawn

The head of this project was a man named Ted Rolston. Nexus Industries was completely undercover. They operated in areas of unknown space, where the government could not locate them... This meant that Nexus Industries could operate outside of legal and moral bounderies. The ship which the reasearch was done on was named the November IV

Since the start of Project D.A.W.N. people who were working on the November IV notced that strange things were happening...

Then bad things started to happen...

Scientists still didnt understand all of the properties of the Quantum Gene... Nexus Industries knew little about it...

All along, unknown by scientists, the quantum gene was starting to slowly mutate into a parasitic creature...

Soon it started to have a major effect on the workers, until it finally broke loose on The November IV...

If someone so much as inhaled the air around the exposed infected quantum gene, you would get imediately infected...

Soon, everybody on the November IV had died, and it lost control and passed through the Maelstrom, a spatial void tube (a scifi worm hole) and ended up crashing into an asteroid...

The November IV was left abandoned for 60 years...

But there was still one sliver of uninfected quantum gene still left...

The infected quantum Gene was dubbed \"The Quantum Virus\" or Q-virus

But if the Quantum gene gave life, what did the quantum virus turn paople into? and What happened to D.A.W.N.?

*forward 60 years*

You play as a man named Maximilian. You are a part of the military division of Nexus industries.

You are aboard The Infinity, a class II N.E.X. research and expoloration vessel.

Your mission is to board the abandoned November IV, retrieve the uninfected Quantum gene, and destroy D.A.W.N.

[b]Very wip /b] screenies of level one, wheere you are on the infinity:

Well its quite nice but you might want to add more entities in your levels it seems rather boring and players might lose interest exploring every corner.

hope it helped!

Looks nice! I like how it looks clean, as most of the games here look all dirty and stuff. Nothing bad with them, but I just like how this doesen't look overloaded with random crap.

Well the abandoned ship sill kind of be a contrast to it, but my main inspiration for the game was beyond life.

Wow, really good job, can't wait for a tech demo. I like the lighting and I do like how it's not dirty.

Very nice, but Shaders would make it look quite interesting. I know beyond Life didn't have shaders, but you could make the game better than beyond life!

Very nice! I do like it that someone has the same sci-fi taste as me! If you turn on shaders, the lights will look much better as if the right effect is applied, they will glow.

are you talking about bloom? I'm not using the v117 beta. It lags too much. Also I have full shader effects on

Apply the illumination shader, that makes part of the light texture unaffected by lighting so it looks like it's on, even in pitch blackness.

I'd love to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my bum.

Otherwise, it would have looked too dangerous!

Lol, nice job, but I agree with Aaagreen. Or should I say I Aaagree with him? Yeah, I suppose not...

Open setup.ini and change the lightmapping quality from the stupidly small level (5 or 10) to 50 or 100 or higher.

Hmm.. yeah I guess . It's kinda weird style. Environments look empty, but still very, very good. Once again a good example that not every game has to be cluttered with entities to look good.

I do like it I say keep the plants where they are, it conveys a sort of 'maintained' or 'off-limits' type of look as if they're growing something in the plant (let's not get on the topic of drugs now). So yeah, that's my 2 cents.

I kinds takes a long time to load with the plants like that though. I was thinking of it as a decoration type of thing. The fps kinda drops like 2-3 fps too. I also think it could be better lighted.

Are you using V1.17? About how long it takes to load: Once you build the full game it doesn't take as long to load. I mean, that's what happened to me and I my Fate demo.

But I don't know about the FPS drop, that's pretty bad....

It is just a little jolty with 117, and I am using an older computer im my basement so I make sure it can run on any machine and it gets like 60fps, which is good. but 1.16 was a lot smoother.

anyway I redid the plant room to make it look more like a lounge area

Playing around with the particle effects. The eat a bit a fps, but if placed correctly you don't have to worry about it.
