Rigging on blender isn't working for me, everytime I go into weight paint mode and click on the armature to choose what it grabs (or whatever) it goes back to object mode. I just need the arms, legs, body, and head rigged. the head can be 1 armature, along with the body. I'd like the arms and legs to be atleast 3, thanks!

That's because the armature isn't in pose mode. Select the armature in object mode and press CTRL+Tab, or select Pose Mode from the list.

Also, the .blend1 file is just a backup file. Every time you save your file, the previously saved version of the file becomes a .blend1.

When you press Apply on the armature modifier? When you "apply" any modifier, it affects the mesh data and removes the modifier from the object. You should only press that button when you want the pose to be permanent. Just like any other modifier.
