WWIV Studios, could you please reduce the size of your first post images to no larger than 1024 x 768. Also I want to see no more arguments, WWIV Studios is creating a fan game, give him some encouragement and / or constructive criticism.

WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's like the real thing man!!!

But from what i see there is little to no scripting involved. Correct me if im wrong.

Absolutely amazing! Now just buy General Jackson's Gun mod kit and start modding your guns so they look like COD MW guns.

Could you post your pc specs please?

I like the voices, which are different from the game, but still sound just like it, but the level needs lighting.

What are you guys talking about?
First of all, what you people are doing is posting nonconstructive posts and repressing improvement.
Second,just compare there two videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDoGUJR2fas
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdpc0mydhoI

You can see from the start, that WWIV's video has no lighting once you're outside the firing range.
Second, the ambiance is too bright and last the remake has almost nothing in common at this point with the original design, because the only thing resembling is the rough placement of the rooms. The textures don't match at all, which isn't a hard thing to do.
I'll be honest here, because this,in my opinion is nothing to brag about and it is most surtenly not a "blew my mind" sort of level.
I suggest you stick with making this first level before you go any further until you really make it resemble the real thing.
You can start by lowering the ambiance, placing more detailed lights and making the whole level (especially the firing range) more resembling by making or finding textures that match the room and not just putting a cellar segment where a concrete target room should be.

Good Luck.

As Zay pointed out, there is nothing that would attract me to play the remake, bad lighting, werid use of stock segments, just nothing attracting. Keep working on it harder, learn to model and make some better models (building stuff out of doors WTH???) and learn some good light placements and the game will get alot better

I am not much of a gamer, but this remake is coming out pretty well! Lighting needs work, I agree with that part. But at least appreciate what work he put into the level. It looks very good, but there is a HUGE room for improvement.

Not all of us are as "gifted" as you when it comes to making textures.

I have never played or care for cod4 but comparing the video he came pretty close as far what gos on in the game. I would not expect a perfect remake. this is fpsc engine. fpsc does not have no where near the map size that aaa games have. as far WWIV Studios gos I think he doing a great job.

more than what meets the eye

Is that the finished project or just a beta, because there is A LOT of stuff you need to add/fix,for example changing the skybox, highring the ambiance, making a rainy and gray ambiance, adding tall grass,a run down car,a background,...
It should atleast kinda represent what's remaking:

I kinda agree with Zay here.

Do you people seriously think this is something "really awesome". I'm not trying to be rude or harsh or anything, but people seriously. Give this guy some constructive critism so he can make the game better! Don't just say comments like "Wow, this is cool" because they don't really help. Well maybe they'll help to get his mood better to work on the game but is that very worthwhile if he lives in an illusion that his game is great?

These are just my opinions.

"Wow this is cool" is as useful as "Oh, this is completely rubbish"...

I think there should be a rule to have one good and one bad point per post, so the creator can see one thing he's good at, and one thing he still has to improve...

I have to agree with everyone else up there^

If you played shipment on CoD 4 and it looked exactly like the screen he showed would you have said:
Quote: "ya this is pretty amazing"

?

BUT he is still working on it so instead of attacking each other on the thread lets start with pointing him in the right directions. aka time for a shameless plug If you're looking for some nice, cheap overlays (say..64 of them) for dirtying and cluttering up your indoor levels might I suggest my overlay pack found here: http://graphicsplurge.weebly.com/fpsc.html

also check out anayar's pack, its even bigger I believe and a dollar or so cheaper. I don't have a link for that though..its easy enough to find in the models and media section.

EDIT: there's a pack of 4 pipes on the freebies page of my site too..you can never have enough pipes

So..good luck, keep working, and most importantly, have fun!

As a first time FPSC game maker myself, I know how hard it can be to construct a good game with very few skills and experience.

I've struggled, I've pulled my hair out, I've pestered other people for help when I've got stuck. But at the end of the day, I've thoroughly enjoyed the experience, surely that's the object of the exercise?

No matter how good or bad we think WWIV's game is, we must at the very least, give him credit for at least TRYING. And if he is enjoying the experience like I am, then so much the better.

I can see potential in this game. With a bit more attention to detail, I think this could be lifted above the ordinary.

I game therefore I am.

I know,listen,I don't have ANYTHING against WWIV,nothing,nada,zero!
What I have against are people saying everything is fine and dandy without even taking a second look. And to call it amazing is in my opinion mocking other better games.

Quote: "I can see potential in this game."

To be honest,I don't.I see potential and I mean real potential in original games like Vague and Symbiotic. There is nothing this game can surprise us with because we already seen a much better version of the same story and levels.

WWIV,I support you, because this is good practice. But I also think you're shooting stars a little to high.So be on the ground level and work with what you got.

There lies the problem with remakes. The standards have already been set too high. But listen I'm not wanting to revive the quarrel about remakes or fan games or anything, and I definately agree with you about some of the "This game is amazing" comments.

We all know there are much better games that have been made with FPSC, but not all of us have the talent or skills to make such great games. Maybe that's the reason why some of us choose to go down the 'fangame' or 'remake' route. Maybe it's the easy option, since the storyline, look and feel of the game has already been created for us?

But, having said all that, I think we need to look at this game purely in terms of creating a game with FPSC and all its limitations. Like I said, "with a bit more attention to detail" this game can be lifted above the ordinary. Is that not what we're all trying to say to him, add more detail? And like I said, if he's having fun with it, then surely that's the object of the exercise?

I too, support WWIV, I hope he listens to some of the more constructive comments that have been made, and strives to make the best game he possibly can. WWIV, I wish you all the best with this

I game therefore I am.

you don't have to be talented, skillful or anything all you have to do is to learn first is to learn from all your mistake second is have aim its OK to aim high just don't take it over the top like jumping straight to FPSC and start remaking a highly budget game you need to have originality not against fan-games or anything but start making something you can do first.

I appreciate that you're doing all of this, but I think that the game should be started from a hectik level and worked outward. for instance, try to create a convincing "no fighting in the war room" map, and give it a test. maybe even record a vid. until you're sure that the most hectik level can be handled, you'll never know if you can do the rest. show us some better lighting, proper level design, and keep in mind, that if at first you don't succeed, try, try, again, unless it becomes impractical to do so, then give up.

I might...I have started to become disheartened by the fact that most people have bashed this game from the start. One of the only reasons im still devoloping is because aceRIDA dedicated time to creating models for me. I not going to cancel but im thinking about putting it on hiatus until I learn more and gather more skills. What do you guys think?

Well, you don't have to put it on hiatus, but you could just quit sharing with people who don't understand WIP. I started an educational game sometime ago and got bashed so I quit posting. I finished it and it was successful and well received among those who had requested it.

I was reluctant to even start a WIP thread for my new game. Again, it is not a FPS game so it will not be well received here except a lot of people are looking at it.

Anyway, keep at it. It has always been said among authors, write what you know about. Nbt knows London very well and made a London pack. You love CoD4 and you probably know it inside and out.

You had already said this is a WIP and you posted right from the very start of that work. You were doing a good job of ignoring the nastiest remarks but I know that it eventually wears upon a person.

I encourage you to finish it whether or not people in this forum know it or not.

I reject your reality and substitute my own!

I think you should do a small remake, you know. Only a couple of levels at first, if people really like it, then you can decide to make more.

The screens look good, I understand you're trying to remain faithful to COD4 but then I think you should add a little more here or there.

Now let's leave him alone guys. It's his choice to do what he wants, the best you can do is give your opinion and at least appreciate that he's trying to do something great while working with his limits.
