my gosh I could not believe this , I bought me a new external WD hard-drive and as you any of you know who bought this hard-drive it comes with its own software that installs a couple services and drivers. My advice is that you dig into the services and set the wd service on manual start in place of automatic and reboot !
I wondered if this was what was causing my system to crawl and sure enough this was it !

Most software developed by hardware companies is bloatware, when I got a new laptop I had 2-3 pages of pre-installed [insert series of expletives here] which I had uninstall, took me over an hour, but it sped up my laptop by a hell of a lot

BASIC programmers never die, they GOSUB and don't RETURN.

what possible software do you need for an external drive? It's like all these people that install software to use a router, it's just not needed.

Yea the first thing I Did when getting my external, was removing Autorun and the junk that runs when plugging in my drive. It isn't needed.
